Split your Storage Card

Hi Folks,

well, I've written a small detailed Tutorial on about how to make two partitions on one Storage Card so you can use it in your Mobile Device as if you'd inser two Cards. I also described in details why you could or should do this, e.g. because some applications as the HTC Camera application, are to lazy to understand that you might have a Storage Card with more than 2 GB of capacity. Therefore, spliting a 4 GB into two times 2 GB makes sence. And also, like this, you can use storage cards that are too big for your device's driver, e.g. a 2 Gb for a SPV e200. Hence you also gain speed, capacity and the possibility to struct your file collections more.

I also translated the workshop into english meanwhile for you. Just post any questions here, or in german, the original space :P

btw, the workshop still is my property. you are not allowed to copy it, reproduce it, sell it or change it nor anything else. Just read it, follow the guide, tell your friends about it and be happy ;)

My questions to you are now:

1) do you want this workshop also in English? (cause it's in German right now).

and 2) where on this page shall I post it, in case you want it?

very interesting if it works, to backup rom datas. do you know if it will be possible to boot from the mini sd? if there a rom on eache partition? which one will boot?

maybe i will try it, with babelfish to translate the webpage.

well, try it with bablefish. it's not that hard to do though. and I wrote it for absolte beginners, in fact, even illustrated.

anyhow, I don't know if you can boot from mini SD. if true, you can of course boot from a partitioned mini SD, too. it'll take the first partition I guess, as it'll be mapped into folders named "\Storagecard\" and the second "\Storagecard2\".

this is so interesting!

would you mind posting the english translation in here?

well then, here you go. I attached the manual as a PDF. I used bablefish to translate it roughly and read over it once to correct the silly grammar. Anyhow, there will be a lot of typos and mistakes in this text and also, the picutes and screenshots are all been made on german enviroments, so maybe you can't read the texts within, but I hope you still can understand what I meant <_< So enjoy.

oh, and by the way, I'm always open to comments and feedback.

I've started with a 1gb card and managed to make one partition of 512Mb and another of about 490Mb. The first partition seems to be ok, I have been able to label it and call it "StorageCard". The second partition will not allow me to give it either a label or a name. When I try to format it I get an error message advising that the partition or volume is not enabled, and to restart my PC to enable it. Naturally doing so makes no difference.

I can not delete either partition or re-partiton it back into one.

Any ideas?

wel, you don't need to label it, as WM5 does ignore these settings anyhow. when you have created your second partition, did you choose primary partition as type? and what file system?

do you use WinXP pro or home? sometimes, you need to rightclick into the small line above the field that symbolises the partition in order to select such operations as delete or format.

I've got Windows XP and when making the second partition I set the file type to FAT and partition to Primary (as per the pdf document).

hmm ;) so, try it with this program in a genuine card reader. it's not for your card, but maybe it helps.

other ideas, well, does the device not recognize the card at all?

Thanks I'll give it a try.

At present my Pocket PC will not recognise the card at all and when I try to run the Removable Storage program, I can see the card on my desktop PC but all the options are 'greyed out' so I cannot reformat / repartition it.
