Bizarre as lots of orange customers flash the imate rom in order to get pocket msn...

Not sure how easy it is to remove it as its in the rom

as i dont have a hotmail account it seems pretty useless i use agile messenger instead

when performing a hard reset on the M600 for the standard rom, what what cusomization cabs it runs

there is one to remove MSN from the machine, so the base rom has it, and orange removes it during customisation

i guess if you unlock the rom and edit the txt file trhat says what cabs to run after hard reset, you could remove the cab that runs msn removal

i also guess someone could email the cab file so that those that dont want msn on the device can run the cab and remove it!!

Think you are wrong.

The file in the Extended ROM is 'PP_RemoveMSNLink.CAB'. This removes a LINK to 'Pocket MSN' but Pocket MSN isn't present in the ROM. All the link does is take you to a web page about Pocket MSN, it doesn't run MSN.

Anyone know where we can get the Pocket MSN cab from?

I actually WANT to install messenger on my M600. However neither the 2002 or 2003 versions available for download at the MS site work. (the cab installs but the icon won't function). MS support say that here isn't a WM5 version because this is OEM software at the moment.

How do I flash another manufacturer's ROM onto my unit? Can I download this somewhere?

thanks v much

@farmgorgon, MSN Messenger as a stand alone program was discontinued when Windows Mobile went version 5 but you CAN get Pocket MSN which includes messenger (it'll cost though).

pocket msn

As for installing other roms on your device. You'll need to unlock it to any rom first (not to be confused with sim unlocking). This is done by changing the CID code to factory default which allows installation of any rom. But messing with roms is risky and could result in an expensive paper weight if something goes wrong so be wary.

MSN is built in to some ROMs - Orange have removed it from the ROM of the M600 and T-Mobile have removed it from some of their phones. If it's there I don't think you can remove it (without a big stick) but if it's not there just look here -> http://www.coolsmartphone.com/news2266.html

thanks for the replies folks. I've tried to run the cab file three times- once onto my storage card, once on my unit (in case there was a setting that made this necessary) and a final time when it didn't even request where to install it. In every case the install procedes a bit then I get "installation [of MSN etc etc] was unsucessful".........

I should add that the pocket MSN icon is on my device still but doesn't do anything

Pocket MSN or MSN Messenger?

If it's MSN Messenger (the old version), Gears article said you had to install the WM2003 update to make it work.

Having said that, I wouldn't want the older version. Onwards and upwards and all that! :)

Strange. Was gonna ask if you rebooted since installing but you shouldn't be getting an installation unsuccessful warning.

I would check the Remove Programs list to make sure Pocket MSN isn't now listed. If it is remove it. If it isn't (or once removed) reboot the device and try to install the cab again.

If that doesn't work it makes me wonder if there's a form of app locking on the M600 that's getting in the way...

thanks for bothering with me, P. Pocket isn't listed as a program I can remove (nor is agile messenger which I also had installed) but there are icons for both in the programs folder! Also, I can't find any files associated with these programns when I do a file search on the unit (was going to delete them manually).

going to have to go a hard reset at this rate.....

No bother. If you can do a hard reset without losing important data it would help to prove if it's a random problem or if there is genuinely something in the M600 rom preventing Pocket MSN from installing.

I'm not aware of the SPV M600 being application locked so doubt that is the issue.

Has anyone succesfully installed Pocket MSN using that cab file?
