Guest TheStealth
Is it possible to setup my Qtek 9100 to receive my work email when I am on the move and away from the office using GPRS or WiFi? I don't necessarily need instant email I would be happy to download it when I need it... If its any help my company uses an exchange server.... Is this possible if so how would I go about it? Many thanks Steve
Guest jimbouk
Yes. You can either simply set your activesync up to sync with the server as your main pocket outlook account, and this will then allow you to sync over the air (manually or by set intervals), or if you are lucky enough to have an exchange Server 2003 service pack2 at work, and have the AKU2 rom on your device, you can even have push email (ie the device keeps a connection open to your server and all new mails come straight to the device as they arrive on the server). Check with your IT people to see if the server software is the spec required and then delete any current partnership in activesync and then plug the device in to your work pc, it will ask if you want a partnership, say yes and then it will ask if you want to sync with an exchange server. Say yes, enter your servers details and your account details and hey presto!

To have the email pushed straight to my device I assume I have to keep GPRS active which I suspect would be expensive... I think your first option would suit me better but I am still unclear how exactly to set this up.... I have already set may work laptop up as an Active Sync partner with my home PC as the main partner) I also need to have access to my home email account which I have already setup as a POP3 account on my device... Can you give me any pointers? Steve
Guest jimbouk
Depending on your data plan, it is usually affordable. The direct push technology uses a 3byte data pulse every few mins to keep the link live. Most user reckon between 3 and 10mb per month for mail. As you have your home email as a pop account and can thus grab those emails when you want, delete any activeysnc partnerships on work pc, then reconnect device and select your exchange server for syncing. Once set up you can do it manually, or at preset intervals. You can also save data by only downloading header, first 5kb etc. If you do this and then get an email that you really want in full, simply click on the email link to download remainder of message and it will be downloaded. If you dont limit the auto download size, a couple of friends emails with 3 mb videos on them and your data charges go through the roof.

Guest sporkguy
So this then syncs on my request over GPRS? Steve That is correct. It will sync your mail as soon as it arrives if your server is running Exchange Server SP2 and supports DirectPush technology. Alternatively you can sync it yourself manually, this applies to calendar and contacts also.

I have spoken with my companies IT people but they won't support this so I was hopping you guys might be able to help me? I'm not sure what version of exchange server my company is using. I think I have the AKU2 ROM on my Qtek 9100 my details are below:- ROM version 2.17.7.2 ROM date 2/10/06 Radio version 02.07.10 Protocol version 413.1.03 ExtRom version 2.17.7.9300 Whilst in the office I logged my company laptop onto the network... I connected my Qtek 9100 and then deleted the partnership. I disconnected and reconnected and then populated the exchange settings dialog box with settings I obtained from Outlook email account settings... after selecting ok it said it was checking/obtaining settings, it then reported an error can't find server name... I spoke again to our IT people and they said there is no way I can connect to this server from outside the company network and particularly on non company hardware and that their firewall will be blocking it.... (Strange because I was on the network) Is this true or are they trying to fob me off? Steve

If your work it department have gone to the trouble of disabling your remote access to the exchange server then you are screwed! It is usually enabled by default but some companies disable it.
