Things like... - How often do you visit? - Where on the site do you visit? - What do you come for? This is also an opportunity to tell me what you like and don't like about the site (be gentle)! There are of course plans for upgrading and improving the site, particularly in the areas of improved news & reviews, improved accessibility for new visitors and Windows Mobile beginners, and a more complete download library. I've taken the extrordinary step of setting the HTC Wizard forum as my home page in firefox! - Where on the site do you visit? Mostly the HTC Wizard section, but also check the front page for latest news etc. - What do you come for When i first got my MDA Vario i was looking for hints, tips and tricks. Guest Samsonite Posted July 14, 2006 Report Share Posted July 14, 2006 I check in pretty much every time i get more than a few minutes internet access during the day and i will have the new posts page on in a firefox tab all evening - muppett huh?!?!?!? i dont really visit any particular section as i read all topics that interest me irrelevant of device area. I guess you could catagorise me as a hangabout who offers occasional help which is usually a recycled piece of advice i picked up here anyway!! I have learnt a staggering amount from this site - not only smartphone stuff. WiFi, GPRS, Customer Service procedures, Network information et al.. and the best bit is the manner in which the information is presented. Sometimes I'll spend extended periods of time on the computer and visit only once, but if I walk away from the computer, my first reaction is to sit down, open IE and check MoDaCo. - Where on the site do you visit? 3 sections; PPC General, PPC Help & Advice and the HTC Wizard section... Oh, and of course the main page portal for news. - What do you come for? I come for the beer and the bitches! But really, I learn new things on here every day ... And it's always good to have some information to back yourself up with when arguing with a Symbian/Palm supporter, :) I've only really started posting here fairly often since I got my K-JAM, however, I originally visited the site when I got my i-mate SP2... Front page, main PPC and smartphone pages and whatever device I have's page - What do you come for? Look for help if I need it, provide help if I can. And any news that may be released. - Suggestions etc It would be handy if there was an option at the bottom of any post you've subscribed to unsubscribe. Daily when I'm champing at the bit for news about release of the new phone I'm after, daily when I can't work out how to work the new phone I've just got, less often inbetween! - Where on the site do you visit? News + the bit relating to my current phone - What do you come for? News about new phones and their features / bugs / when I can expect them Find out if I can / how to do something with my phone - This is also an opportunity to tell me what you like... Great source of news, great archive of the posts of people who suffered the same problem before you and found the solution. and don't like about the site (be gentle)! Well, now you've made me think... the screen can be a bit busy and at the moment the title on the page is taking up more than a third of the height of the screen. Usually around the sections of my phone de jour. Whether it's a SP or PPC. But I usually browse around and see if there are questions I could answer or discussion points I can add. - What do you come for? I am ALWAYS looking for new apps and other member's impressions of them. This is usually the place to find new tweaks first as well. -What is my favo(u)rite one thing about Modaco? It's a great bunch of people sharing common interests though we can't decide on a common way to spell "favorite". There is so much to learn from everyone and it feels good to help others. -What would I like to see in Modaco in the future. 1) My biggest gripe about the SP platform is the lack of QUALITY software. I would like Modaco to do things to entice developers to create the next great application. Best New Application Contests; the best Palm app ported over to WindowsMobile (take a look at the best sellers and port it over); anything to get the developer community off their butts and make (again) QUALITY applications for me us! 2) New discussion points on things that others may not ordiarily think to do with their phones. Maybe someone is using the phone in a way that others never thought of. Maybe their answers could open the eyes of others, allowing them to enjoy the phone/platform more. 3) The phone is, as we all know, internet connected. Tips and Tricks using web-services or creating html/php pages from the phone would be a great addition that goes beyond the specific abilities of the phone. For example, a tip for creating a mobile-accessable webpage that will allow me to edit fields that could change things on a personal website...like my mood, a manually entered personal location, or a quote of the day. Even as far as a blog entry. This promotes Smartphones over Dumb phones in the "your phone can't do that category. 4) The personal blogs were a great idea...but what would be even better would be a type of Modaco "MySpace"-ish section. Like a MySpace for phone geeks. I like the PPC application that just came out calles MySaki.com. But it's flash based and only for PPCs. What would be great is a Modaco version of that, that could combine/replace the profiles, galleries, blogs, irc, etc. Wouldn't that be cool? 5) As the days go by...the number of forums here is becoming unmanagable. There is waaaaay too much going on in too many specific sections. Every time there is a new phone introduced, there is a new section. As a result, there is soooo much information getting missed. Someone could have a great idea in one section that is never seen by the masses because it's in an obscure forum. There has to be a way to scale them down. I wount even bother suggesting a way...because there are a million ways to do it. And what is best for me is probably not best for someone else. IDEA: Could users have a way to PERSONALLY MERGE sections? For example...I would like to see all smartphone devices threads inline in one forum. General feel of the forum, been to plenty of others and they usually end up in some sort of mess from bitching What would I like to see? A dedicated area for registry tweaks along with HTC and Modaco making a smartphone together so we can get a phone that we could have input in..... News & Help and Advice - What do you come for? Mostly to get help - What i like: People are always willing to help and point you in the right direction - What i don't like about the site: The site has become very over crowded in my opinion. There is too much going on, on each page and i have found searching to be increasingly difficult as the site grows. Typical example of this was when i was looking for the GPRS setting a few weeks back...it just felt like too much work getting to them. Breaking news on this site isn't great. I used to visit Modaco alot more in the past because of the news articles. These days i tend to go to msmobiles and coolsmartphone, just because those guys are so much more quicker off the mark (although i do understand that we all have jobs and no one is paid to develop smartphone communities). Again an example of this is the Samsung SGH-i320 - very little has been said on this site about the device...this is particularly disappointing especially as a number of members here have handled the device. Over at msmobiles i have seen a full set of pics and detailed talk of the devices performance - that is the difference. On a smaller less significant point, i have found the site to be sometimes a little cliquey. It's difficult to explain but i just feel sometimes that if you are not a regular poster or you are a newbie that you are treated slightly dismissively. Your contribution is positive, constructive and very welcome :) My experience is that all forums (fora/fori, whatever !) come across as a bit cliquey at first, as do most collections of people in any situation. What do I like? I like the whole thing - there is such a huge base of subscribers that there is pretty much always someone on hand to answer any question or start an interesting topic. How often do I visit? Every day now, probably 2 or 3 times a day What do I use? Just the forum itself at the moment .... I tend to use Coolsmartphone for my downloads and news stuff, although that's partly because I have been a member over there since I had the very first Orange SPV and it was the only Smartphone resource on the Web ! ( although I still think that it's the best all round resource available ) I always sign in to the forum, and then search for all new posts on the forum. Then I 'cherry pick' the ones that I like the look of , regardless of whether they are in the Smartphone or PPC sections What would I like to see on here? Not sure ... it suits my needs at the moment and I find it quite busy and vibrant. I suppose that a bit of obsolete post pruning or archiving would be ok ........... I think that one thing that would be great would be some sort of monthly Podcast with all of the latest news and reviews , similar to the sort of thing that you get on Engadget or Stuffmag - this could be have the odd advertisement interspersed throughout to help make it worthwhile and further support the costs of running the forum....
