Videos taken with the Vario - playback problem on PC

I needed to shoot a video clip with my Vario. I knew that avi's were more compatible than 3gp's so I shot it as an avi. It plays fine on the Vario, but if I copy the file to my PC, Media Player just gives me the sound. Do I need something else?

yoy may need a codec, i think its this one:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Motion_JPEG_Codec.htm

oh and mandt, the video was recorded on the phone, which cant play divx without another player/codec, so it wont be possible to record in it. if you had read and settings on the phone, it would say record as mjpeg avi, NOTHING to do with divx

Ok, I reinstalled DivX - no go. Says the file contains unsupported video data, "FOURCC code "MJPG"". So I downloaded a couple of extra codecs and still no joy. I thought recording as avi on the phone would make things easier! Anyone know which codec I need? My aim is to convert the file to a wmv and stick it on a website, is there another method I could try (some kind of on-the-phone conversion)?

if you download the codec finder gspot (deadly name I know!) and point it to one of the .avi files it will tell you exactly what codec you need, from there you should be able to find the codec on the web.

gspot can be found here

if you still have problems can you post one of the .avi here and I'll have a go?

+#Edit did you try the codec phile1234 posted? its not the divX one +#Edit

Cheers for that. I did try the codecs mentioned above. And my work PC seems to play it OK. I'll see how I get on with whatever gspot tells me when back at home. If not, I'll have to install some conversion software on my work PC. IT will love me...

if you have XP on your work PC you might be able to open the file in windows movie maker and export it as a .wmv

Just thought i'd let you know the video works on the home page of your site, but not the page listed above. Looking at the code, I think it's because the relative link to the video is incorrect in the page above, but correct from the home page.

Don't want to sound like a [insert appropriate word here] but thought you might want to know!

YOU DON'T SAY!!

and there I was thinking I could record DivX movies on my phone :)

To clarify a combination of a good media player, e.g. Winamp, and the DivX cocec will allow you to play most avi's on your PC.

mandt, you're the one that said to download the divx codec to try and decode the videos which are encoded in mjpg... :)
