I saw this mentioned in another thread.... but have not seen an answer...

Please can someone confirm if Line 2 is available, (or if a fix similar to Startrek fix can be applied).

I am getting excited about getting one of these phones, but dont want to end up disappointed when I get one and have to send back cos Line 2 not available.

Thanks

Rossy

I mailed HTC to ask the question yesterday and got the following response...

Dear Sir

All our recent products support "line 2".

best regards

Yves

Hopefully this is correct as I would love to not have to carry both a work and a personal handset around with me!! Is anyone able to test it out yet?

Well that's bollocks, it depends on the network, AFAIK. Orange haven't had *any* HTC devices with Line 2 functionality as up to the M5000 (Universal). Which is crap.

@sgray, probably best to distinguish which SPV 500 you mean as there's two, the SPV C500 (a Smartphone which from memory did have Line 2) and the SPV M500 (which, as with all HTC Pocket PC Phones of old, didn't). We'll assume you mean the C500...

Just had a look at the manual (on Orange business section), and there is no mention of Line 2. I assume therefore that it is not available????

However, I suppose it is quite possible that the Starrtrek fix may work, but need one of you lucky so and sos who already have an M3100 to try it out.

Please someone help.... I am desperate to get one of these babies, but can only do so if Line 2 works!!!

Thanks

Rossy

Anyone........ please???!!!???? Someone surely has an answer by now.

(I apologise for my impatience!!!... I'm sure you understand)

One of the OCS people checked with a supervisor for me yesterday and confirmed that it supported line 2. But I wouldn't trust them, given their usual lack of reliability, unless someone on this site has proved or disproved it.

Good luck in your quest.... unless you plan to be the guinea pig yourself???

I agree.... I'll wait for someone to confirm from this site (hint hint!)

OCS told me that as far as they knew it didn't support Line 2....... so I don't think they really know what they are doing!

I tell you what I do know... I tried my OVP Virgin Line1/ED50 Line2 sim in an M3100 today and made a call and it went from my Line2. I tried calling my line 2 number and it was unobtainable. Called my line1 and it rang.

Well my experience of HTC devices is limited to say the least as I will be upgrading from a P910 but out of the box it didn't work. BUT my Sim is rather old. Not sure a new sim would work better.

If there's anything else that can be done then I (and a few others) really want to find out and fast! :)

I upgraded to the SPV M3100 & was given a new USIM with the phone. Having modified the registry with the above entry, I can't switch to Line 2 by pressing the # key on the phonepad. Putting my SIM in a SonyEricsson K800i, Line 2 works OK so I know there isn't a problem with the SIM.

When you make a call which line does it go from? When I tested the M3100 all calls would go from Line2, though if you tried to call Line2 it was unobtainable.

What devices did the Starrtrek mod work on and what exactly did it do?

This is the only thing stopping me from getting the phone as I need to be able to switch between line 1 and 2.

Hi all,

This is my 1st post here, so hope it is helpful.

I have spoken (yes on the phone!) to a very helpful HTC technician and he said the 3100 and other variants IS line 2 compatible, however, there is a software glitch that means the phone only works as Wam7 describes above. Their programmers are working on an update to resolve this issue and it "should" be out in a few weeks, but obviously no gurantees. He did also make it clear that this update will only work on HTC branded phones and Orange would have to release their own version due to the CID lock they use, and there is no gurantees that they will do this and to date I can't get any respone from Orange about the update.

Hope this helps some of you like me who are waiting to see what happens, but it will be strange that Orange would release phones aimed at business users and that line 2 is now only avaiable to business users, that the phone doesn't support line 2. So lets see if they are really are planning to keep supporting line 2!

Thanks for that Swins, that is very useful information. It gives us a better of idea of what is going on. I noticed a lot guys with have joined on here over the past few days & contributed helpful posts... looks like the M3100 is gaining a cult following. :D

Thanks,

I must say I am looking forward to getting my own one soon (on waiting list) only had an upgrade 3 weeks ago but they messed up, so I wrote them a letter and they are sending me a free M3100, and I get to keep my Nokia 6280 as well!!!

I am waiting for a call back from O on the line 2 issue, when, or if, I ever find anything else out I'll be sure to post here.

I have had my phone, and I love it!

Contrary to other posts, on my M3100 all calls go to and from Line 1 only. If someone calls Line 2 I get a text telling me that I have a missed call on Line 2.

I have spoken to several HTC support on this issue and have been given a pretty honest, but not official, response tonight.

The belief is (and they say that because they don't know what the Tech Dept. are actually doing!) is that the fix for Line 2, bluetooth issues, power issues, and other general bugs that we all know off are not going to be fixed with patches, but will be solved in a ROM update for AUK3, which is due out "soon". After pressing I got "maybe 6 weeks, but not less and possibly more".

So looks like the TyTN and variants will be getting AUK3 soon, lets hope it fixes all the bugs and they add some cool new functions too.

Line 2 is an extra line on your sim. I believe only Orange offer this in the UK. It allows you to have a separate number, line rental tariff, voicemail, etc. great for business people who don't want to carry 2 phones around with them.

I had pretty much the same information from my contact with HTC. Hopefully they do actually sort out the line 2 problem as I desperately need it sorting out.

My sim no longer makes calls from line 2, though my mates still does when used in my phone. (?)
