I've just called Orange to upgrade and there system is currently down. I was told that I couldn't upgrade as the phone wasn't out yet. Once I'd pointed out to the guy that according the website it was I was then told that It wasn't available on upgrade. It seems that new customers are more important to Orange than the ones they already have.

Tell us something we don't already know then! :) They've always done this. Frankly I can't see how the hell they get away with it, it's a bloody disgrace. Especially after they spent a boatload of money last year advertising the fact that they *most definitely* look after existing customers, which is clearly utter, utter bollocks.

phoned and tried to upgrade, but its still showing on their systems as "In review" awaiting a call back now from a supervisor.

had the call back, its only available for "web sales" currently, not upgrades.

i *@!#~ &!"@ hate orange!

I got a similar response. they say wait atleast 10 days and it will be availble for upgrades. Something to do with stock levels and attracting new customers. The first shipment is always smaller to gauge the demand acording to the retention bloke i spoke to.

Lets hope they get lots in stock!

Right call me all the names under the sun but...

Im starting a new orange 18mth contract even though my current one has 4 months left. Reason: The Vario II looks shocking with that horrible purple/red crap, and the one orange deal doesnt seem bad..

m3100: 49.99

40 a month, 660 anytime, 400 texts, unlim orange off peak calls, no data (but the 8 does exist somewhere)

Doesnt seem that bad really apart from data.

What ya think?

Well to be honest, if you want to use your phone for voice calls only, then there are cheaper ways to do it - for example the SPV C600, free on new connections. Or even the M600.

The whole point of going for the M3100 is the ability to browse the web and send emails, in which case the data bundle is more important to the amount of voice minutes thrown into the talk plan. And data bundles at Orange are far from being attractive and competitive...

As far as I'm concerned, using the M3100 on T-Mobile WnW is the only option, so I may consider buying it from Orange only I can sim unlock the phone and use it with the WnW plan I currently use on my vario. But I am not sure whether simunlock is available (for free) for the Hermes/TyTN. It may be a while until they found a way with lokiwiz or similart.

I'd wait until it is released by T, if I were you.

What do you think?

If anyone here has a business, best deal I can do is 2 x M3100 free of charge on 2000 sharer tariff (2yr) for equivalent of 58.83 (ex vat) per month.

As I deal with an Orange Business Specialist, there's probably more chance of it being 'in stock'.

I've just ordered two for myself (to unlock and use on T-Mobile Web'n'Walk - Orange can have my voice traffic, but not my data until they come up with a sensible data package).

Apologies if this breaks Modaco advertising code (on uk.telecom this would be allowed due to defence of 'relevance' but not sure if that applies here).

Regards

If I went on to the 40 a month deal, any ideas how long I'd have to stay on this tariff before I downgrade? It used to be 6 months...

I'm just looking to get the M3100 as cheap as possible and I'm thinking 49.99 for the phone plus (6 * 40 + 6 * 19) equals 404 - not a bad deal all in all.

Oh, and is it next day delivery? Can't seem to find the info on their site. Chocolate teapot springs to mind.... ;-)

Rght, so you signed up to a 40 / month contract, with no data allowance, on a HSDPA phone for 18 months instead of going to tmobile WnW deal-o-rama because you didn't like the pinkish shade of the Vario II... right :)

Please people! Everyone slags off Orange, and I believe they are justified in doing so, but for gods sake, if you're not happy with the service vote with your feet and move network. Just hold on a little longer and I'm sure the Vario 2 will be out soon.

Switching networks is really painless, and it's the same for Orange as it is thousands of companies in the world in that their service will not improve unless it has to, and at the moment they have no reason to improve. Sure, a few customers have complained to the retention staff but have then been swayed by a cut price contract. Only when customer start to move away in decent numbers will they improve their service. Simple.

I guess ur right!! It's just frustrating!
In order to leave I will need to buy out the rest of the contract! I guess I'm complaining because if they cared about their customers they would let long term customers upgrade /switch plans etc, but they don't!

i've just written to the orange chief exec's office - advising him that he could significantly reduce his churn rate if he ran the only network that looked after existing customers as well as new ones (in addition to their loyalty discounts) and letting him know that, after nearly 12 years with orange and a spend of just over 16000, I am leaving...

I wonder if he will even bother to respond!

I noticed the "other" customers.... Are they trying to be patronizing or rude?

Yeah, I know the feeling. I personally got frustrated enough to leave for T-Mobile months ago. To be completely honest, I don't know if T-Mobile will be any better when I come to upgrade, but I'm happy to move on again if they can't keep me happy. :)

Maybe one day a network will stand out from the crowd and look after it's existing customers, but until then it's up to us to vote with our feet and move on!

It's a shame T-Mobs version of the Hermes is so bloody ugly, (compared to the M3100), but it looks like I'll have to go to T-Mob for the web n' walk. Orange have lost me unless they offer cheap unlimited data PDQ. Shame, since I've been with Orange since my Nokia 2140.

I can't see the Vario II on t-mobile's site....
Is it up there?

I'm currently with Orange with a (like someone else) half broken C500 that doesn't ActiveSync and delets all my text messages when it turns off (which it does regularly!)

I had a XDA Mini from O2 at the beginning of the year that went back as it was horribly unstable...

I cant believe that you guys would buy a t-mobile version if you think its ugly :) just for the data side.if you work out how much you are paying for it over the 2 years then its alot for a phone that you think looks crap and it wont impress the girls if they see another guy with an m3100 ;)

But with the prices of data bundles on orange, although my phone would be much sexier, I'd have to sell my car to be able to check my emails. And I'm not going to look to good cruising around on my bike, even with an M3100 in my hand!
