...Another thing. If i try to recharge for one night when i get up I need to take off battery becouse the phone go down and don't work. When I turn on it again the battery life signs 2 or 3 bars, and the phone is very worm (the display shows 43°C)-..

This is what makes me think that this device in particular is faulty. it should not stop responding during recharging.

possible reason:

1. memory leakage
2. resource leakage
3. device overheating

it would be not too bad idea to monitor memory / system resources on the "suspect" device for a 2-3 days.  That could reveal the reason for battery drain

I think battery life has got to do with how good your 3G connection is.  I am on the fringes of 3G where I live and I think the phone hunts for a 3G signal.

If I am in good or no 3G reception the battery life is far better.

Just bought the Dopod 595. Battery life is not too bad but I'm in the city so coverage should be pretty good. Its nowhere near as good as my 577w which is in repair at the moment. Now what would be good is if someone came up with a utility to switch between UMTS and GSM at scheduled times - eg I have to have my phone on all the time and at night I don't need 3G data services - so switching to GSM would preserve battery life. Just a thought

I had a similar issue with battery life. I heard that Orange had rejected the adoption of their C700 phone (the MTeor in disguise) because of battery life problems. That didn''t sound good so I thought I would test the standby time with a view to complaining if it was as bad as I expected.

I drained and then fully charged the battery and turned BT off. I then left the phone in an Orange 3G area (2 bars) for as long as possible without making any calls. The phone lasted a creditable 6 days in standby before the battery ran out. So the problem is not simply being connected to 3G.

Last week I took the fully charged phone out and about and the battery was dead in 8 hours. After this I charged the phone again and kept a close eye on it. I now think the problem is this... when the phone loses a 3G signal it goes into "Searching" mode (where it displays this on the screen). Trouble is that around 50% of the time it never comes out of this mode when the signal returns. My guess is that it bumps the power up when searching and for some reason it''s not regaining the signal correctly so it burns through the battery in hours not days. Actually, restarting the phone by removing the battery when one thinks the the 3G signal should be back will result in the phone gaining signal again, which seems to back up this theory.

This morning I''ve been on to HTC support and the nice man there told me to cold reset the phone. This I have now done and I''m giving it 24 hours before getting back to them (I don''t hold out much hope, franky). My guess is it''s a firmware problem but, whatever it is, it is such that the HTC MTeor is useless until it is fixed.

For potential purchasers my advice is that, until you hear that HTC have addressed this problem, DON''T BUY THIS PHONE.

Well, if the O2 (XDA?) Graphite that O2 UK are allegedly gonna be getting soon really is the HTC Breeze in a different case then I really hope they managed to fix the battery life problem. If they did I'll happily get it, if not then not a chance!

I recognize that problem, bowerandy (the constant "searching"). I tried going into flight mode. Then I wanted to go back and turn radio on in order to see if it would regain the signal, but I couldn't turn the radio back on!!!

On a number of other occasions, the phone has instead displayed "startup service" or "no service" (or similar, I have a Swedish language phone). In all cases, I have been in a place with full signal strength. In these cases, turning off and on the radio did the trick.

I agree with others that this phone needs a firmware upgrade real bad! Since the TyTN has gotten an upgrade, I am hoping that MTeoR will also get one soon. They share the same radio hardware after all, so it should be pretty fast to use the new TyTN radio stack in the MTeoR as well.

My phone was on change all day yesterday.  I took it off charge when I went to bed (about 10pm).  I woke this morning, flew to Spain and back (so my phone was off for most of the day) and when I arrived back in the UK, an hour later it was down to 1 bar.

It's rubbish period. No matter why it happens.  It is totally unusable as a serious business phone.

Have you tried returning your phone for a repair/exchange? I see that you've written about your problem (or rather, your phones problem) many times, but though it may help to blow off some steam it won't fix the problem. Others do not have a battery problem of the magnitude that your MTeoR does, so it seems likely that something is wrong with it.

My experience is that the battery time isn't exactly great, but not a catastrophe either.

When I go to the States, it runs for days without a problem so it can not be a battery issue.  No 3G there......

do not charge for more than 3hours. i find that charging longer than that time will cause the battery to drain much faster.

Best not to try and fully drain the battery as you can seriously shorten the life and cause the battery to lose capacitance which is irreversible damage.
Most Li-ion batteries have undervoltage protection so fully discharging them can be hard but not impossible.
Ideally they prefer to be topped up at regular intervals and every so often a condition charge ie leaving it on charge overnight etc can help keep the battery in top condition.

It's incredible all this chat about how we should or should not charge out battery.

The MTeoR's battery life is rubbish. Period.  I have never had another phone (not even the original SPV) where the battery life is no appalling.

The phone is at fault, no the user.

I have had my Dopod 595 for over 2 months now. I have refrained from commenting on battery life issues until I was happy that my phone was well tested.

I can happily say that I get a similar battery life (1.5-2 days) as I did with my Tornado. However, I now use internet, email and video conferencing much more, so this is pretty impressive. The Wi-Fi is handy on the Tornado but only when beside a free access point!!

Overall, I have found this phone to be extremely stable and well finished. I am very well aware that the first HTC versions in Europe may be a little different, with no video conferencing, but I would hope that this does not deter people from buying this phone.

I have had various different HTC/Dopod phones to test and I would not swap my phone for any of them.

I've had my Typhoon get stuck "searching" for a network a couple of times. Each time needed me to flip into flight mode and back to get the network back. If that is what's killing the mteor battery life then a simple rom update should fix it easily.

I've heard this phone is coming out on the 3 network in the UK soon so it'll be interesting to see if the problems are fixed as with the Dopod.

After switching my schedule from direct push to every 15 minutes my battery time has gone from disastrous to just like the previous five phones I had (which were non-3G).

I have the very latest HTC ROM on there and it has made absolutely no difference.  Currently my phone is back with HTC for repair.
