Alright people. I have spent a total of 6! hours seaching every neither region of the internet to try and get my SMT5600 working again. Brief description of problem:

Was working GREAT! I installed Opera or something and I couldn't get it to open, so I turned off/on the phone again. Stuck at the Windows Mobile screen. Tried hard resetting, doesn't work. I can get to the boot loader, etc just fine. I have a copy of the original Cingular ROM burned to an SD card I was going to use as a restore, and I get the white screen asking me to 'press to update'. When I hit the key it says 'Update not allowed'. Apparently I need to change the CID or something to allow me to restore my ROM file. The phone IS SIM/Application unlocked, but the CID is still set to ATT/Cingular. UNFORTUNATELY every solution to change the CID requires that the phone boots up and I can connect activesync to it.

I'm at a loss here. My phone doesn't boot, I have all the stuff to get it going again, but I keep hitting dead ends. First person to help me restore my phone will get $10US paypal'd to them. I need this phone working!!

There is a CID unlock tool over at SPV-developers which will help you.

As for the hard reset, when you say you can not get it to work, what actually happens?

There is a knack to getting the hard reset to work correctly. There is a guide in the information section about this.

I would stick with trying the hard reset first though.

PS keep your money and buy yourself a game or put the money in a charity box :D

I appear to have figured it out myself. I paid $40 through IMEI check and that set the CID for me. Looks like that was the only way, but I was able to reflash.
