Oh well, I've sat on the sidelines for long enough - and enjoyed and benefitted from this excellent forum - so I am going to join Plus (Paul can you make sure the "random" draw means ME.

Too late - I am in there now and cannot believe what some of you have been saying about me...oh well, a nice shiny white modaco c600 and I will be happy.

(Mrs Jimbouk insisted we go down to the coast the weekend of the Summer meet...and she reckons she might finally get some piece and quiet if I won the phone)

still absolutely gutted i didn't turn up for the event!!!

been meaning to join plus for ages so i think its about time. actually looked for the c600s on ebay the same day. took a little while for them to show up.

Personally I think the phone's bloody gorgeous.
I'd already planned on becoming a plus member on payday (25th) Beery managed to talk me into it over IRC. :D

Why's that then?

A moderator is a voluntary unpaid member of MoDaCo that chooses to assist, and by being a Plus member is as entitled to win as everyone else.

Disco Stu wasn't at the event and I was thinking if I won it what would I do and my first thought was to give it to someone who had helped me and his was the first name I thought of, rapidly followed by about a dozen others before diciding it would be far easier just to put it back for a redraw.

It is a well deserved win.

It's just that I've seen in other websites where anyone as part of the website cannot enter the competition, only the members to keep the system fair.

I dont know Modaco's deal with the mods. I guess they get complimentary plus membership - but moderating is voluntary and can be quite time consuming - and does come with some responsibility.

I moderate and administrate a couple of forums (none of course as big as the mighty Modaco) and it can be quite a tough job at times - having said that gadget geeks like us lot don't tend to cause too much trouble with each other...unlike forums that attract real people...
