Guest chrissyboy6969 Posted September 2, 2006 Report Share Posted September 2, 2006 I have read a few posts regarding this problem and i have pinned the problem down to any third pary application that automatically connects to the internet. I have uninstalled all software and as soon as i install a newsreader or weather program that is set to auto update my device will not switch on after a while if it is charging. When I have wifi or umts activated & the phone goes into standby when I wake it up again it just freezes & nothing but a soft reset will fix it. Even when a phone call comes in the phone will ring but I can't answer it because the the phones frozen. I always leave wifi & 3g activated when I'm at home & in the office but that not possible now because my SPV 3100 will just freeze. With wifi deactivated it seems to work fine. This to me is one serious flaw/bug. My Wizard & Prophet never had this problem. I'm ready to throw the phone against the wall. I've already changed 3 handsets & they all do the same. Also its totally reproducable as I took it the local Orange shop to show them the problem. Maybe I'll try a differnet rom to see if it fixes. Guest Posted September 3, 2006 Report Share Posted September 3, 2006 (edited) I've got the vario 2 and leave 3g connected constantly and have never experienced this problem. it might be jus the 3100 rom or I might just be lucky. I have a hell of a lot of apps that auto update spb weather my email apps etc etc. Also have SPB diary and SPB plus installed. I'm getting quite annoyed with it now, it just doesn't work as well as I thought it would. And it was VERY VERY HOT when I had to do that reset just now as well, which worried me somewhat! Guest jimbouk Posted September 4, 2006 Report Share Posted September 4, 2006 If you are experiencing issues, I would uninstall all third party apps, maybe even hard reset and run with it for a few days to see if it avoids the problem. That way you will know that it is actually an app, rather than the device. If it runs better when clear, then start adding back the apps one by one to see if you can identify which one it is - of course it may be that you install them back on and it works fine, in which case it was just a bad install previously. I've had mine for nearly four weeks now and only had to soft reset twice due to unresponsiveness. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Dr Who Posted September 4, 2006 Report Share Posted September 4, 2006 (edited) One of my Vario II handsets has started occasionally locking up when waking up the screen when its powered down. The weird thing is the calendar app always seems to be running at the 'back' of everything. That is, go into running programs and close everything (calendar already running or not) then the today screen often disappears and if I fiddle around for a bit eventually I see calendar running check running programs and nothing shows. I can click the start menu OK when this happens and some things will open but the today screen disappears. I am sure a hard reset will sort it out but the weird thing is this handset is plain vanilla and the one I have playing around with is totally rock solid. I also have GPRS/UTMS connected all the time for Push Email. All but one time was when I left it charging over night. I'm running quite a lot on my ext rom, I was wondering if that might be part of what's causing it? To do with how the device powers down or summat? I have had some issues with connections over the USB cable too, but I think that's just cause the cable's a bit loose (duff). I'm getting a bit ticked off though, for sure...! I think i had a newsreader and weather program and although not 100% i believe they were on the storage card, and i guess this would explain the problem, i will install them into main memory tonight and charge it overnight and see what the results are. Guest zen123 Posted September 4, 2006 Report Share Posted September 4, 2006 OK I've done a hard reset on my M3100. Loaded the Dopod ext rom & O2 settings cab. Nothing else. Set up wifi & 3G & got push email going. I've left wifi & 3g connected as I always do & so far its behaving well. No lock ups or freezes yet. I'm going to leave it in this state & set my usual wake alarm & see what happens. If it doesn't freeze I'll begin loading my programs & apps one by one. I do leave GPRS connected overnight while charging though... and I do have a weather program too... Actually not quite true - I have CF2.0 installed on the SD card.
