Interesting....Orange don't seem to be too fussed about losing customers?

I'm in a similar situation except that I'm out of contract, luckily. They offered me a Select 500 tarrif for

I don't know what it is with Orange at the moment unless they've seen so many people leave lately that they've just stopped arguing.

I'm going to be paying off my contract on Tuesday but I don't imagine they'll try to hard to keep me - not that it will work anyway as I'm now happy with TMob. It's just annoying that they seem so incapable of competing.

I've just done it too, after 12 years with O.

So far, all calls dealt with efficiently with no waiting. They even actioned an email support request to fix my MyTMobile profile after a mere 24 hours or so.

Rang them today to port my O number - we'll see how that goes.

Fantastic being able to use the mobile net without worring about crippling call costs.

Oh, and I ordered my Vario II at 6 pm, and it arrived at 9 am the next morning. How good is that?

And they gave me the WEB EXCLUSIVE 500 texts a month for life, even though I ordered on the phone.

V. Impressed so far!

I think you guys all complaining that Orange aren't bothered about keeping you must remember that mobile data users (and thus you lot) are a very small percentage of their mobile users and an even smaller percentage of their income.

I know that the networks are looking to recoup their investment in data and in 3G but lets not forget that adding a data network to a mobile telephony network is, again, not a huge investment compared to the hardware and infrastructure required for the voice network.

It may well be that O are sitting there quite happy with their current data earnings - particularly as the less informed customers are paying a lot for their few mb per month.

Of course, this may all change in the future as we use more and more data - but lets not forget O make more money selling a ringtone or wallpapers to "dumb" phone users than they do providing data to those of us who really use their data networks.

Very good points Jimbo, I suppose we are looking at a very small subset of users and if everyone else is anything like me then they've never shelled out for a ring tone in their life hence not a good money earner.

You guys went through to the PAC department... you know when you call up it's in the options "if you are thinking of leaving orange". These guys must get commission on how many PAC codes they can complete! I went to that option first and they threw a PAC code at me, I got it by txt a few seconds later even though I got disconnected half way through the call! I've since found out this is highly irregular & breaches policy.

When I got the letter a few days later I was given another number to call and this time they seemed only to keen to keep me on board. I finally got a decent offer after 5 or 6 tries with the normal number. Because I have Virgin OVP/ED50 and pay

I also left O this week after many years. Incidently, I phoned for my PAC code yesterday morning - there were no complaints and no attempt to keep me which I didn't actually mind but how long does it take for the code to arrive?

Plus i'm new to this moving network malarky so once I get the code how long does it 'normally' take the new provider (T) to switch my nunber over?

On a side note I was very impressed with T that I ordered the phone at 6pm on Friday and it arrived 9am Saturday morning!

oh and W&W is great :D

well you give your pac code to tmobile and they organise the change over for you ring 150 to do this I think.

they say it takes 7 to 10 days to switch over but mine took 5 from O2 cpw. they sent me text message and a letter confirming the day that it would be switched over and yes I had a little bit of fun and games that day ( neither phone worked for 4 hours in my case) but by 4 pm my number had switched over from k750i to my vario2 successfully so all good in the end

advice on the day in question leave both phones OFF completely this seems to help things along I turned mine on every 3 hours or so to check if it had happened.

anyway quacking over

..... but how long does it take for the code to arrive?

I phoned up Orange and requested my PAC code. Was informed the code would be sent through the post.

A week later still nothing in the post I called Orange again. This time the PAC code was sent to me via text within 1 minute of hanging up.

was told the same mines in the post so i wait and see. just on the orange / t-mobile i have owned all spv since the start and orange are aware of this, when i ring up and say i would rather stay but i could pay off my contract and buy the handsett and still save 50 quid so give me a bit of discount to keep me, they said no so after years of loyal service and sticking with rubbish price plans to sopport there ongoing commitment to windows mobile i had to say enough is enough.i am now on a far netter tarif with nearly double the text and minutes and also unlimited HSDPA i have no regrets, orange had years out of me and my family and they have lost us all.

Pretty much the same here. I am paying up about 5 months of one contract just to leave! So far TMob have been fine, although I haven't had much in the way of dealings with them.

I was planning on returning my M3100 with the 7 day upgrade period and moving to T-Mobile too, mainly because of the confusion around the availability Orange World Unlimited data.

The T-Mobile shop had a Vario 11 in stock so thought I'd check it out. Having had the M3100 for a few days I just couldn't bring myself to go for the not-so-nice-looking (in my opinion) Vario 11. I know its pretty shallow basing the decision on looks, but I have to use thing every day :-D

Anyway I ended up getting the following from Orange: 800 minutes/200 texts, free insurance, Unlimited Data, free unlimited calls to a designated orange number all for

Dont forget that everyone on here is actually different in terms of the way the networks see them. They look at your contract spend plus your extra spend per month...and some people here are probably more forceful with retentions.

Another thing that disuaded me from T-Mobile was the insurance terms -having to send the handset off and no next day replacement for faults.

That's strange as the chap in my local T-Mobile store assures me that if I have to make a claim under insurance, then I can simply walk into their store with the faulty one and walk out with a new one (assuming they are in stock).

The guy in my local T-Mobile shop said that if it was an insurance claim, i.e. lost, stolen, damaged, then as long as one was in stock in the store you could have a replacement straight away.

However, he said if it was a claim due to a fault then the handset needs to be sent away for repair. He said they quote 7 to 10 days turn-around for repairs. You do get a loan-phone which tends to be a bog-standard affair rather than like-for-like.

I'm not sure which T-mobile shop rep is correct so it may be worthwhile going back and clarifying this issue.

I did the deed last week.

I could go on about how great their CS reps are, and how quickly they got the phone to me (and how quickly they did a courier swap when I got the infamous alignment issue). I could write about how I am really getting 1mb/s on my laptop through a USB modem connection (web'n'walk pro). I wont mention how the number port went ahead last week, on the day they promised, with a text to both accounts before and after.

Instead I will just say that (so far) I am a very happy T-Mobile fanboy.

The only thing I will miss is the courier insurance swap if HTC have made this thing as badly as they made my C550...

:D

Having said that, you have to hand it to T-Mobile for their data competitiveness on their standard tariffs.

Don't know how true it is but at the Oxford Street store they told me if I had a fault they would replace the handset for me that day in store once the repair code was issued from TMob.
