Now that HTC have admitted that there is a hardware problem with some of the Hermes devices I rang TMob CS and they said they have not received any calls regarding this???

So, any Vario II owners who have arranged for a swap out have you just gone back to the store? (This is what they advised me to do as I'm within my 28 days period).

I have just spoken to HTC Europe and they have comfirmed that it IS a recognised hardware issue and that they have communicated this out to their partners but it looks as though TMob have not processed this info yet.

I'll see if I can get mine swapped out on Saturday.

Mine might be displaying the screen alignment thingy. Went out twice in very short succesion recently but never before or since. I am keeping my eye on it. So if I go back in store within 28 days they will swap one out for me will they? I suspect I might begin seeing my problem more frequently.......

That's what CS told me - problems within you 28 day cutoff and the store should arrange for a replacement.

The problem didn't happen for me for a few days after I got it but in the last week it has been getting worse.

Yeah, mine started to have alingment issues yesterday, had to realign about 5 times! Really don't want to have to replace it though as it's taken ages to get this set to how I want it. Is this is software or hardware issue?

Yeah, just reading the xda develepors forum you linked to. Going to see how it is over the next few days before deciding on whether to return it or get it swapped. Might try this before returning (taken from the link you supplied):

A colleague was able to fix the problem by untightening the two screws on the back of the display and retightening them (not quite as tight as before). His device works without screen alignment problems ever since.

Tried that myself and no dice :D

Typical!

Now that I have confirmed there IS a hardware issue and agreed with TM thatI would take my phone to the store for a swap-out I can't for the life of me get the screen to go out of alignment no matter what I try :D LOL

Never mind, new phone is always good. I have only had this problem once, well twice in the space of a couple of minutes, and it seemed to be related to using the screen in portrait, then landscape, then portrati with, I think, PIE open. Or it was just having a 'moment'.

The only thing I did was reinstall the MountExtROM Cab but it wasn't going screwey even before this.

I think I've just got it running scared and if I decide I'm not going to swap it then it'll start acting up again :D

Yeah, mine seems to have sorted itself out as well. Had to realign once yesterday but it's been fine since. I think it started to play up whilst I was using it heavily (downloading software over 3G, browsing the internet and listening to music at the same time) and I did notice it heated up whilst doing this. Anyway, glad yours seems to be okay as well random.

Not sure if this helps, my Vario II was perfect until I installed WiFi Companion, then screen alignment kept being lost within minutes.

Removing the software didn't solve the problem, I therefore removed the screen protector and did a cold reset.

Not a single problem since. From past experience I had problems with screen protectors.

Of coarse they will not say there is a problem as they dont want them back , in the uk you payed half the price for your vario2 phones to that of germany so just be happy you have one so cheap , or go and get a decent model the spv m3100 :D

Sounds like the new batches are better , maybe t mobile released the phone too soon before checking for t bugs as orange released the M3100 first and in the press release from t mobile they claimed to be the first to release this type of phone something that is a lie , just keep on taking them back and hopefully the will pull their act together and give you the quality product you paid for :D

i actually prefer the looks and button layout of the vario 2. anyway the data charges on orange are criminal compared to wnw. AND orange doesn't have a HSDPA network as of yet and nothing in the near future.

I agree Phil, I prefer the look of the Vario II having seen it up alongside the M3100 (thanks Andyhud). It looks so much better than in the pictures.

As soon as the new one has been on a good long charge I'll have a play and see what happens.

Remember raising an eyebrow reading the T-Mobile UK press release for the Vario II too. But on re-reading it I decided they were actually correct:

First to Market: T-Mobile launches MDA Vario II with mobile broadband

T-Mobile UK customers first to reap benefits of HSDPA on a mobile device

Don't see anything false in there Peekie?

The only thing orange were first in was the type of phone as for the network orange had better wake up and start the service as it cripples the phones benefits , orange 3g here in holland looks like being in 2007 so no way of testing the 3g camera on my phone yet :D

Don't think so Snoopstah.

Just so you all know, my replacement has a serial starting HT634 (the old one was HT632) and I've not had any problems with it.

Mine's started to lose alignment now, too. Can you get a replacement at a store even if you bought it via Telesales?

I'm afraid not old bean - not unless you took Fonesafe insurance and pay for a replacement like that - then you can pick up a new device from any store that has stock.

Colleague of mine here at work had the screen alignment issue (and he order his Vario II AFTER mine). Had just had it swapped.

He went into the T-Mobile shop (even though he didn't buy it there) and they called up for him and arranged next day delivery of a replacement to our workplace.

Lucky so and so was left with a spare set of accessories and spare battery as they provided a new boxed unit after telling him to only return the handset itself.
