Guest jimbouk
Have you got any of your mail programs or activesync set to auto check/sync? Or do you have any other third party apps that access the web?
Guest wiltsboy
No I'm not using any mail programs or activesync, and the only 3rd party software I had was a game demo of Full Hand Casino which I uninstalled once I noticed the data connections were happening. I have disabled the programs from connecting to internet now, by chaning the "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using" now the problem has stopped. Orange say I have to take the "phone" to an orange shop so someone there can see if there is a problem, if there is they will write a note for me to send to the billing department. The thing is it happens speratically. Have you got any of your mail programs or activesync set to auto check/sync? Or do you have any other third party apps that access the web? Guest Confucious
This usually happens when some program is trying to automatically update or register. No other 3rd party apps installed at all? What a waste
Guest wiltsboy
No like I said no 3rd party apps on the M5000, all the 3rd party and apps that I've developed and test are installed on my o2 XDA Exec. I use the M5000 for PIM and phone. As nobody has any idea what the problem can be looks like I'll have to
Guest Confucious
Paul has developed an app to turn off data connections - see the hermes section. It doesn't jelp you in this case but should prevent it happening again.
Guest matt1971
This usually happens when some program is trying to automatically update or register. No other 3rd party apps installed at all? What a waste  You've probably already checked this but: Have a look in the windows\startup directory - just to see if there is anything that shouldnt be there (I have poutlook, sddaemon and _custsktemp.exe only) There is been a registry hack that keeps the data connection active - do you know if this key was changed? Even if it was some app must have been accessing the connection for data transfer to occur. Have a look in \program files\ to see if there are any applications that you dont recognise or thought you had uninstalled either in main memory or SD. If you use a WIFI connection are sure that has been active before surfing? Sometimes its difficult to tell. Finally (am sure you know this) but if the email account is active (ie currently selected) and you have the options set to automatically check every say 15 mins then it will connect every 15mins to check. Other than that if youve backed up your phone - why not hard reset and see if occurs. Matt Edited September 28, 2006 by matt1971
Guest wiltsboy
Hi Matt, Thanks for the reply, I'm going to take the phone to my local Orange shop to get them to check it, the customer service guy said that if they find the phone to be at fault I might not have to pay the
