I'm gonna get it swapped today as it has a dead pixel (boo), and then i'm undecided.

Since I can get the full 200 quid back within 28 days, even if I don't decide to keep it, I won't be selling it cheeeeeep

If you've used the 5 pounds credit on the SIM that's OK.

If you've opened the 20 quid top up, they'll knock 20 quid off your refund.

The megastore voucher... unknown!

Right, bear with me here because im new to Windows powered phones but im a quick learner so hit me with all the details and send me to where i need to go if my stuff gets too far off topic.

I just got this Lobster 700TV after having had the Nokia 6680 for a year.
FIRST QUESTION: In your opinion is this an step up or a sideways move in terms of capabilities? (A very vague question i know, maybe comparisons are not so straight forward when crossing the OS divide, or maybe you dont have experience of Symbian OS).

Im in a position to keep my 6680 so id thought id get this Windows Mobile to see what they can do and id have a bit of both worlds. The things i like to have on my phone are emulators, applications, games etc but im also a fairly heavy internet user on my mobile. I notice that Virgin have no such thing as a data tariff
SECOND QUESTION: What would you suggest my options are in terms of miniming data costs?

My next wondering is about the operating system. 'Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphones'. I notice a lot of software advertising that its for "Windows Mobile 5.0" but doesnt signify if its 'pocket pc' edition or 'pocket pc phone edition' compatible or in this case 'for smartphones' compatible. Some software has a version for "Windows Mobile 5" and a different version for "Smartphones".
THIRD QUESTION: What exactly is the different between the different Windows Mobile 5.0 and how does this effect the kind of software i'll be able to find?

I notice the resolution is 320 x 240 QVGA, and i also notice a lot of emulators such as ScummVM and Pocketdos do not currently have versions for this resolution. Although i noticed on some forums that in future updates this'll be supported.
FOURTH QUESTION: Is this resolution thing going to be a common problem for getting suitable software, is it a freak of the windows smartphone world?

FIFTH QUESTION: Does this phone or windows smartphones in general have Java (J2ME?) in the same way as Nokia Symbian phones do? Or are Java games just not going to happen on a phone like this?

SIXTH QUESTION: Can you point me in the direction or mention directly to me the kind of 'essential' software a Windows Mobile user should have. For example, Media players, Emulators, Task Managers, File Explorers, Web Browsers etc?

Basically i mainly want to know about software compatibility issues in relation to specific operating system, whether its classed as a smartphone or pocketpc, resolution issues, etc. Most of the otherstuff i think could be answered by a decent FAQ so if you could send me to one of those id be very grateful.

In your review you mentioned it was locked to Virgin Mobile...

Just wondering, all t-mobile phones i've ever used have been able to work with a virgin sim, and vi-ve. Have you checked that T-Mobile sims definatly don't work? Also, if it does work, can you pick up radio/tv with it?

Well, I got it this morning and have been playing with it pretty much since then.

At first I tried it without the Sim, and was interested that you can recieve DAB radio without a sim-card. TV however needed a license as was earlier discussed.

The DAB radio is really really really good. I was so impressed by this feature, the sound quality is fantastic with a great range of channels (I was hoping for more rock orientated ones though).

The TV... well.. it's pretty crap. The fact the phone is being marketted entirely on one of it's poorest features is a shame because a whole heap of people are going to be dissapointed by it.

I came from a C500, running Windows Mobile 2003, so Windows 5 was new to me. Using the Lobster really makes me want Windows 5 on my C500, especially the new style camera application! I have been impressed with the software side of the phone, a lot more than I had expected to be.

The phone itself... well.. it's very very big, and it's pretty damn uncomfortable to hold and use - but it's certainly somthing anyone would eventually adjust to.

I really really wish the phone was inside a different case, and smaller. I've enjoyed using it, and for the price it's excellent.

Anyway, to cut it short, I don't think I'll be keeping the phone (although I wish I could keep the number!) but will be switching to the 15 a month Virgin online contract.

What about the keypad!

Is it just me, or is the right hand side screwy?

Glad it's not just me that had a bad TV experience

The keypad is okay for me. I don't mind it actually! The right hand side is certainly screwy, but that's because of the ridges they added, which seem like a rather odd addition to me.

The biggest problem is pushing left on the joypad!! It seems you have to hit it really specifically to get it to move left, whereas the other buttons seem okay.

I really really want this phone bad, but in a smaller package! WIFI and MiniSD would be nice too!

I got my lobster 700 TV today i was impressed for this being there first windows phone (as i had a SPV C550 which is rubbish compared to this) i think the 700 is a good phone it doesent lag like my C550 did (which i replaced with a Nokia N80)

I paid 199.99 from the virgin shop and got 35 credit and have to send off for the 25 virgin megastores vouchers

The another thing i liked about the phone was when you sign into MSN Messenger on it it automatically gets your e-mails for you and stores them on your phone

the only question i have is:

shall i get this phone as a replacement for my vario??

i like the look of the phone, however it is missing wifi....
my only real worrys:
the TV reception/quality is bad
ROM updates will be few and far between

I just called in to the local virgin store...so far they havent sold a single lobster
he said it is a good phone, and that the TV side of things works well, however he wouldnt want to watch a 2hr film on it.

so, shall i go for it??
