I admit it, I have an addiction [stands up]. I can't help it, i've tried to beat it, but it's no good. I'm addicted to gadgets :)

Gadget addiction, like other addictions, takes over your life, and you need a bigger and better gadget hit every time to fulfil your craving. I'm sure many of you reading this share my pain

The flip side of this is that every now and again a new gadget comes along that totally blows you away, often unexpectedly. I recently had one such experience!

While at Mobius 2006 in Boston, a number of companies contributed gifts to attendees. One such company was 'Ultimate Ears' [website]. The company background is a fascinating read in itself, but what you need to know is that Ultimate Ears make, without a doubt, THE ultimate earphones.

I unpacked my super.fi 5 Pro's with some trepidation... after all, it's a $250 set of earphones... can they really be that good? Oh yes they can! I can't put it into words, but put simply produce they most amazing sound i've ever heard!

Here's why I've fallen in love with them...

- The sound, oh my, you wouldn't believe it possible!
- The fit, they are so comfortable
- Fantastic bass, excellent highs
- Excellent isolation from external sounds (can't wait to use them on a plane!)
- Excellent build, case included
- You can walk down the road listening to your iPod / Mobile / other media device (delete as appropriate) without looking a complete dork in a huge pair of cans, and still get great sound ;)

On my return from Boston, I pinged a mail to Ultimate Ears to express my gratitude, and guess what? They replied suggesting I give away a set of the very same earphones [product page] to a lucky MoDaCo member. I'm not one to argue... so here's YOUR chance to win the best pair of earphones you'll probably ever own :( That's a corking $250 worth!

What do you need to do to win?

You need to send me a Private Message (click here to start), with answers to the following questions...

- With who was Ultimate Ears found Jerry Harvey working with in 1995 as a sound engineer?
- In which colours can you buy the super.fi 5 Pro earphones?
- How many drivers are in each super.fi 5 Pro earphone?

You also need to complete this sentence...

- I think I deserve to with the Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 Pro earphones because...

And that's it ;)

The winner will be chosen at 5pm BST on Sunday 29th October and posted here... MoDaCo Plus members... remember you receive 2 entries into the competition for your submission instead of 1. This competition is open to all MoDaCo members worldwide.

Good luck everyone, and huge thanks and kudos to Ultimate Ears for their generosity! :P

When I lost my C500 on a drunken night out my houshold contents insurance paid up - don't forget to claim for the cost of any music you've lost that was tied to that machine as well!

Good luck, hope you have backups of all your music.

That's bad, really bad. If you're looking for a replacment for the ultimate ears then look at the BOSE triport IEs. Got a pair on sunday for $99 and think that they are fantastic, not isolating but they meet every other aspect of the ultimate ears. You can check them out on engadget.

And i thought my gadget addiction was bad!

I have two SPV C550's (in various working order), a SPV C600 (no bootloader however ;)), Qtek 8310 (fully working ;)), an iMac G4 in additon to the family computer.

Soon to be added to the list will be an MDA Vario II and a JAFWM dongle for unlocking/flashing/IMEI rewrites

And I'm only 17 :( dread to think how bad this addiction will be when i'm older and have more money to spend on gadgets! :)

When you suggest that these are the best things you have ever heard, could give some specifics on what you are comparing them to? Are they just better than "they came with my MP3 player" ones, or ones you pick up from Argos or Dixons for 30, or are you able to compare them with, for example, Etymotic Research (ER) models?

So many gadgets look or sound perfect, until you see or hear something better
