Guest Celtic Blood Posted November 2, 2006 Report Share Posted November 2, 2006 Well as we all know, life can be tough and things can be more complex than they should be, especially when you've got a pocket PC it seems.. after having mine for over three weeks, I've decided I'm not a fan of them at all I must be honest.. for internet, photos, mp3s and saved videos fair enough, but the lack of and difficulty of installing simple software that we've all grown used to on our Laptops is too annoying.. I'll probably sell mine and get a good vista satellite laptop for on the move instead around January I think. No point in flogging a dead horse and all that, I only feel sorry for the poor bassa that will buy it off me.. as I could sell hairdryers to the bald ! I use my laptop at home now and don't think I've taken it out of the house since I got my Universal last november! I've never used or heard of a Universal so can't comment on them, mine is a Vario (or HTC Wizard in US).. the software I refer to is.. no decent macromedia flash player on it for you tube videos etc, Java games won't run, no decent Java platform for it so no Yahoo pool or similar games, no chance of quicktime or full windows media player so music and videos won't play on V bulliten forums I use. No, a PSP and Archos etc don't appeal to me, I just thought a Vario would probably have the same or similar software capablities as my laptop does. It's nowhere near as good. You wanted a screen with the resolution of 320x240 (excluding the softkeys/top bar) to be used playing Yahoo! Pool? Or to play YouTube videos? Both of which (correct me if I'm wrong...) are larger than the screen at their native resolution (and not the Default setting in PIE). Not to mention the fact that you do realise that being a pocket platform, it has limited capabilities in the sense of processor speeds and the amount of RAM it can physically carry, right? I mean, these are mobile phones with the convenience of being able to write/type documents, hopping on the internet to check email and/or blogs, as well as keeping your contacts synced and updated on the go... It sounds as if this isn't directed at the target audience that you belong to, and perhaps next time, you need to do a bit of study and research when considering putting money into such an expensive investment :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Sometimes, pulling out a laptop, no matter how small, is not the practical decision. When I'm on the go, it's very nice to be able to pull out my phone and go online to buy tickets to concerts as soon as they're released, bid on ebay, check email, listen to music, take pictures, etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
