Duplicate IP and Gateway addresses for T-Mobile GPRS (UK) in XP - c500

Hi,

Here's a wierd one. When my c500 connects (via USB on XP) to T-mobile's UK GPRS network, T-mobiles appears to be assigning it the same IP address for both the default gateway and the device itself!

I've been away from my c500 for a while (dire N70 on T-mobile, UK, better camera on hols), but I've decided to re-use it as a USB GPRS modem, using my new T-Mobile Flext/Web'n'Walk account (the c500 is fully unlocked).

Problem I have is that although I CAN get a network connection using the c500 under Windows XP, all attempts to connect to the web or ping fail. I set up some DNS entries within the phone, but still nothing. So I issued a 'ipconfig /all' from a command line and I get the same IP for both the default gateway and the phone itself! This can't be right???

Any ideas on how to rectify this?

Thanks

Rich

P.S. Please have a look at the attached command line image, just to verify that I'm not going mad.

Thanks for the idea but when I try to release or renew my connection, I'm greeted with the message:

" is not enabled for Dhcp".

I've looked in XP's TCP/IP config for the gprs/modem connection, and is it set up to obtain its IP address and DNS entries, which I understood to mean 'Dhcp'.

I just wan't to surf away from home :)

Rich

P.S. I've tried this on my works PC (also XP SP2), and the conection details are wrong there, too.

No, DHCP is one specific way of obtaining the IP settings, usually used on "normal" networks.

A PPP connection - which you are using - has its own built way of obtaining the IP settings. Since it is not using DHCP, you cannot use DHCP commands on a PPP connection.

Sorry, I cannot help you with your problem. Just wanted to clear up some of the confusion.
