Upgrading...but want to keep phone

Hey all :)

I spotted this in the moneysavingexpert's forum:

I was paying about ?15 per month line rental for 200 off peak minutes with T-Mobile. Wasn't tied into a contract because I'd been with them more than 12 months and hadn't upgraded. Thought I'd see about changing to the 'flext' thingy to save a bit of cash as I was paying about ?25 per month in total.

Rang up and after a bit of cheekiness managed to change to flext 25. Should be ?25 pm for ?60 worth of calls or texts but on offer at ?18.75. Because I don't want to upgrade my phone I got a further discount of ?10.

So.... ?60 of usage for ?8.75 per month

Here is my situation...I'm currently on U-Fix 15 and my contract finishes in 11 days. Do you reckon it is possible to do the same perhaps?

I will then be able to sell my Compact and then to buy a Vario from eBay. Would T-Mobile allow me to move to a different phone (which I purchased myself) without invalidating the line rental discount?

Also, say if I was to go with Flext 25+WnW for now, would it be possible to upgrade later (now is the exam season - don't need phone much!) whilst still maintaining the discount? :s

Firstly.. the ?18.75 cost will be with the 25% discount that tmobile throw in for customers who connect directly. the ?10 discount I assume is a loyalty bonus that they give to customers who renew their contract but without a handset (we had something similar on Orange).

Worth going for, as long as you don't need to upgrade your contract with them for a further 12 months.

Tmobile will allow you to move to a different handset, and keep the discount as long as YOU are the one buying the handset, e.g. off eBay simfree, its simply a case of changing the Sim over.

However, as mentioned earlier, you wont be able to upgrade within the next year, as you are effectively renewing the contract by gaining that ?10 discount and the 25%.

(as far as I'm aware, I may be corrected).

Depending on what you are offered it might be worth upgrading and sellimg the upgrade.

I allready had n O2 Exec which I bought off eBa and was using on Orange. I've just taken out a W'n'W flext35 contract for 18 months and got a free Compact II with CoPilot for ?32/month.

Sold the phone to someone at work for ?150 (one went on eBay the same day for ?185) and the CoPilot on eBay for ?122 so after all costs (I had advertised the phone as well) I've cleared ?250 - a bit better than ?10/month discount.

Just a thought.
