O2 have got both handsets now, although not available through their web portal

http://www.mobileshop.com/mobile-phones/o2...s/nokia-n80.php

http://www.mobileshop.com/mobile-phones/o2...s/nokia-n91.php

both free of a ?45 a month tariff. N80 is shown as coming soon on Orange but no word on T-Mob yet.

Rather underwhelming review of the N80 here http://www.infosyncworld.com/reviews/n/6614.html although not terribly in depth. Still, sounds like an ace little gadget, just hoping we see it on T-Mob in the very near future.

I'm going to guess that mobileshop have a different distributor to the networks and so this company is probably importing them or has somehow managed to secure a very early delivery..

I wouldn't like to put a guess on when the networks get em.. but I don't think it'll be this month anyway.

Then again, I'm forever being proven wrong :)

I've had my N80 since last week, and it is simply the best phone I have ever used. Nothing can touch it. Simple, straight forward, stable O/S, compact feel and feels like it is built to last. I love it already.

Well then mate, its about time you got a review up for Mobiholics! there aren't many complete reviews around the net of it :)

(oh and some decent photography would be nice too :D)

Where'd you get the lil blighter from?

I'd be interested to hear your opinions as well Jay, as well as which operator you got it on/SIM free. I hope this blows the N70 out of the water 'cos as you know I thought that was a dog of a handset compared to my C500.

Ugh. The N70 is wrong on so many levels.

Why? Because its a 6680 in disguise. The 6680 was a 6630 in disguise, and the 6630 was the 7610 evolved to 3G.

Saying that, the 6630 was the last decent symbian phone Nokia made IMO. love mine

As far as I am aware the N80 is not yet supported on T-Mobile. So you could get a sim free one and use it but it's not officially released as a T-Mobile handset so may not work with all T-Mobile features. I got mine SIM Free from work, and use it on Vodafone. As the N80 is not yet officially avaialble on Voda, Live! does not work. Which is annoying because I cannot download the football highlights. But apart from that I don't use Live! so I can live with it.

Overall the N80 is a very solid handset. It is very compact in size. Slightly thick, but it does incorporate a 3MP camera. In length, closed, it is noticeably shorter than the C600. Start up time is the quickest of any Symbian phone I've used, and a good 10 seconds quicker than the C600.

One of the major complaints about S60 is how slow it can be. After turning the phone on, accessing the menu for the first time there would be a delay of a second or two. You don't get this on the N80. Access is very fast to all features.

The N70 has been the best 3G Symbian handset to date. Those that didn't like it invariably used the Orange version. The 6680 and 6630 were fairly disappointing. But the N80 is head and shoulders above the competition. The N80 is packed with features, WiFi works very well, and is fairly straight forward to set up. The feature I like the best, and a major factor in making the purcahse is the web browser. The new S60 web broswer is so straight forward, and makes navigation a doddle.

You can choose between viewing a whole page, and scrolling around, or zooming out and seeing the whole page on the screen. If you use this view you move a red square around the page with the cursor, and when you are over the section of the page you want to see, just click and zoom in.

Setting the phone up first time round is easy, using the settings wizard found in the menu.

The camera takes really good pictures. I'm not too fussy when it comes to camphone pics, I know if I want top class pics I'd use a tool designed for the job, a top class camera. But for quality point n shoot pictures the N80 does a very good job.

Not so much a review as a quick opinion. I am extremely pleased with the N80, build quality is obvious from the off, the screen is amazingly clear and bright. So far no bugs found. All in all a quality handset.

Below are some screenshots which I've had to resize to fit into the post. You can see how the browser works in a couple of them. But the genuine screenshots are much better qulaity this is just as a taster.

Pretty swish. I'm a fan of S60, even with its flaws - but if they've tweaked it to be almost perfect now, then thumbs up to Nokia :)

Would be great if you could get us some sexy device photography up jay - thanks a lot for the review mate :D

Symbian is doing rather well these days, you should make the move over from the dark side and try it out. With the new N Series the choice of handsets is good. N80 and N73 available now, the E60 and E61 available imminently, the N73 and N72 available in around 6 weeks, plus the 3250 is a very good handset (Music phone with a 'twist' action)

Symbian S60, at the moment, has a lot going for it.

Jay, I've moved your reply into the right thread mate :) -Sporky

The N80 looks interesting as a technological statement, the other that appeals is the N93! The others seems a bit ho-hum, to me at least.

Can the N80 sync the notes field of contacts or calender entries yet? I'm sure I read somewhere that the newer S60 devices can, but I can't find it now. :)

My post was in reply to the comment above, regarding the Symbnian consideration..... As it is not Modaco here I thought I would try and persuade him away from MS phones :P

I've just been flicking through the orange.co.uk website, the N80 seems to be available on there now!

Looks like new customers only at the moment - not showing on upgrades via the website. About ?50 on a ?40/month tariff. Come on T-Mob lets see you release this phone!

:D my mate has just picked upa 3250 and i must say i did like it initially... felt nice to use and a big bright screen... I tried to go online with it and that turned into a bit of a trauma but thats probably down to my non-MS driving skills.

I am in a quandry as i am at upgrade point but need SatNav - does the latest crop of N-series things have this capability?

i have a gadget based hankering for one of the new Nokias... the one with that folds out into a proper video camera thing... now if that could do satnav and be a decent web tool then i might be really tempted...

Currently no satnav is compatible with the latest crop of N series phones, because they are built on 3rd edition S60 software. However Tom Tom is planning a compatible version soon and I imagine all other manufacturers will follow in shortish order.

I believe Amo is with Carphone Warehouse. N80 is only on O2 and Orange at the mo - you can get it for free with a ?40 a month O2 contract through mobilephoneshop.com.
