When charing phone goes to car profile

When I plug my phone into the charger it goes to car profile. This is a problem because when I try to attach the usb cable it goes to car mode and I cannot change it to any other mode. This cause the phone to be unsyncable with my machine. Has anybody seen this before, If you have please let me know how you fixed it.
