Looks like you've been updating the forum software, but in the process we've lost the mobile version.

Using the desktop version on my smartphone stops me from looking for new posts and stuff like that.

Can we have it back soon please?

As you correctly stated, MoDaCo underwent a huge under-the-skin upgrade yesterday, and one of the pieces of the jigsaw yet to come back online is the mobile version

I anticipate this returning early next week (it's not quite finished yet)... this would actually be a good opportunity to get in any feature requests for the new improved mobile version!

To get to the mobile version (when it's online), you just point your device at the site's regular address (www.MoDaCo.com) and the mobile version is automagically displayed.

Doesn't seem to work with opera mini though, any way you could add that to the list of browsers it works for please?

Oh, can you take the 1-Home, 2-Search links off (assuming nobody here uses them) because my PIE shortcut keys use 1 for "Top of page" and 2 for "Page Up" and I keep forgetting when I get to Modaco that they're overridden.

I have to second the request to remove or change the 1-Home 2-Search links. I do use them, but more often than not, I am trying to page up.

Oh, oh, how about emailing replies to topics?

I'd like to be able to hit Reply to a "Topic update notification" email, and for my reply to be posted as a reply to that topic - rather than having to click on the link, wait for it to load, scroll to the end, click "Add Reply", wait for the next page to load, enter my reply, click "Submit", wiat for the page to reload

Random Mobile MoDaCo related question... would you rather have a slightly graphical version (a-la-old Mobile MoDaCo) or a really really lean version (a-la-BBC Text Only (ish) website)?

I really like the "Text-only" (which isn't) BBC page, it's probably one of my most visited from my phone.
Modaco like that would be very cool.

Whilst I like the design of the site when I visit from my PC, I don't need any of that on my phone, so I'd say go for the plain version.


One thing that was "missing" from the old Mobile version was the forum name, so you when looking at the list of new posts you couldn't see where the post was (to tell if it was relevant to you).


So, I vote for plain layout, but with more info, if you see what I mean.

on my smartphone ive edited the registry so the phone is seen as IE6 like how it would show on a computer. so im guessing it wont show modaco mobile on my phone then?

Also tweaking IE this way stops you from viewing 'new posts' as you don't get the pop up on PIE

I must admit, I prefer a bit of colour, quote boxes and emoticons to show. When I was using the trial of PIE+ it removed all the boxes and colour which made reading posts with quoted text a bit tricky - where did the quote end and the posters reply begin? The current 'desktop' version is a bit too heavy on graphics, even using HSDPA and flat-rate data (ie I don't worry about the cost).

I'm sure this is high on your to do list Paul, but any idea of when we might see the mobile version again?

For what it's worth I like the idea of a plain text version, however one feature I did miss from the previous version was the ability to add images into a post (a screen shot straight from my PPC for instance)......and I suppose this feature request would lean me towards some graphics being displayed!

May well have just delayed the return of mobile modaco even futher have I ?

Now the wiki is underway is there any chance of Mobile MoDaCo making a return soon, as my PC has gone belly up and I'm relying on the mobile for my daily MoDaCo fix, (new posts doesn't work so have to trawl through manually, sooooo much harder)

Also - Request here - Could you make it possible to edit your posts in the mobile version?

You can edit the posts in the new mobile version, it's not quite ready, but I am on it!
