Windows Live Mobile brings a wealth of Windows Live functionality to your device, including Live Messenger, Live Mail, Live Search and Spaces. It's super slick, and an excellent application. So where do you download? Er, OK, well there's the problem... at this stage, WLMM is only available in ROM on a Windows Mobile 6 device, with no official plans from Microsoft to make it available for download seperately. The web page linked above states... Windows Live for Windows Mobile Availability Windows Live for Windows Mobile is coming soon through a growing number of wireless providers in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Contact your wireless provider to find out about the new Windows Mobile 6 devices that will give you the richest mobile connection to your Windows Live world. ...which kinda sucks really :) Of course, we'll be keeping our ears to the ground to see if this changes and lobbying Microsoft to make it available seperately but at this stage, WLMM is off limits to Windows Mobile 5 users. But, has anyone actually used the new Windows Live Mobile? Can you tell me if it will synchronise Calendar and Contacts from Windows Live Mail (i.e. Hotmail) to the Windows Mobile Device? All the websites I can find mention Windows Live Mail, but seem to completely ignore Calendar and Contacts? Guest thenext1 Posted February 13, 2007 Report Share Posted February 13, 2007 the only beta version I've tried worked only over gprs, no matter if there was the wifi connected. it ran over wifi only if you disabled the radio section of the phone.i think mobile operator don't want people using messenger instead of SMSs because it's cheaper to do an entire conversation via gprs than to send a single 160 letter message, at least here in Italyso they asked microsoft to distribute Live Messenger only through them. Guest Rob.P Posted February 13, 2007 Report Share Posted February 13, 2007 I've been using the Beta for months now, the last refresh build was issued in Nov'06. That build works fine on my device, it'll connect via any internet connection, although I did find the Homescreen plugin to be a bit hazardous, it kept freezing my device occasionally, but then I find that with the odd home plugin. Hardly surprising about the WM6 only thing though. We are talking about a software company that has trouble getting it's live messenger to work with Vista (he says thinking back to the hour or so at the weekend getting the damn thing to work :) ). It seems to be able to sync contacts and email with Live Mail/Hotmail, but not Calendar, which is a shame. The office online system they have been offering looks like it's gearing up for being mobile friendly. It's in beta for UK users (you get a free domain name as well). If you go up to the second level (which is currently free, but will be monthly subscription once it goes live) then you get the Outlook Connector which will synchronise Outlook (locally on your PC) with your Office Live mail (and contacts and calendar I assume). You can then use Active Sync to get these details onto your mobile. BUT... You can't sync your mobile direct with the server (as far as I know), and also you can't use Office Live with your Hotmail account - you have to use a new domain name (which is not the end of the world, but still not quite what I'm after). So.. I'm still looking for the ideal solution, to what should be a relatively simple problem: I want my emails, contacts and calendar synchronise between my Windows Live Mail accounts, and my Windows Mobile 5 device.
