finding names in contacts

I sure hope they thought this through. In WM5 when you pull up the contacts you are supposed to be able to start hitting the letters of the name you want to find and it zeros in to the name. On most phones, you use the numpad to do this, where 1="abc", etc. However, on the Blackjack we have a complete keyboard, not to mention that the number keys do not have the 3 letters printed on them to figure out which number represents what 3-4 letters. Suffice it to say that the WM5 contacts app appears to only respond to the number keys and since I can't tell which number is what letter..its basically useless.

is there a setting somewhere in WM5 to tell it to use the full alphanumeric keys instead of numpad?

Not sure there is a setting to tell you what each number represents on a standard keypad, but on the blackjack, on the contacts screen, just start typing in the name of the name of the person and it starts to zero in there. Theres no need to type in each seperate letter by number with a full keyboard.

uhmm, on my blackjack the full keyboard is not working, only the number buttons.

Can you be a little more specific? Is the whole keyboard not working anywhere, or just in the contacts screen? This is the first I have heard of this.

I just received my Blackjack and having come from an SMT5600 (which obviously only has a numeric keypad) the concept of finding contacts from the Home screen was simple - start typing from the numeric keys and eventually, as you say, the relevant name gets narrowed down.

However, with the Blackjack, pressing specific keys doesn't result in filtering on that specific combination. For examplem typing "j" and then "e" to attempt to find contacts with the name JEFF shows a slew of names from my contact list starting wtih JOhn (JO highlighted), JIm, KEvin, JOe, and JUdy. Can someone explain why with a full keypad WM5 can't pull up the correct names right from the start?

i am having this same issue. seems to be a flaw in every blackjack. i sure wish there were a fix.

it makes no sense that this should be happening. none whatsoever. why would you even think of using the numeric pad (sans alpha-representation) to search for contacts when you have a full qwerty keyboard? INSANITY!

this is also a problem in a game (currently in beta testing) Shadow of Legend. you cant type a thing in the app without the num pad screwing it all up.

....maybe i should have got the cingular 8125 ><

SS - if you call Samsung's repair centre in the UK, they can arrange to upgrade the software for you. Call them on 01295662113.
