Hi All,

I have an MDA Pro that has a broken screen, something has hit the harder outside of the screen and now its got a large black circle and the rest of the screen is white.

Anyway, the reason for the post, its being replaced tomorrow so i want to reset it back to factory settings, but as far as im aware you have to be able to view the screen for that as it asks for some kind of input that you have to see. So, I remember there being a program for my C500 that would let you view the screen on your PC. Is there a program like that for the Universal so I can view the screen from the PC?

Or alternatively, a hard reset that you dont need to be able to view the screen,

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Kenny

As my MDA Pro has become extremely flaky just recently (which I'm in the process of trying to resolve), I've made several resets to factory default (unfortunately, as these problems seem to stem from the ROM upgrade I did a little while ago, it doesn't do any good). Anyway, bottom line is, press in the two minus buttons above the keyboard and simultaneously insert your stylus into the soft reset button. This will result in the options to press 0 to reset or press x to not reset. So, once you've done the hard reset sequence just wait for a second and press 0. If your device shuts down and then starts up it should have worked.

Sorry,

I didn't address both parts of your query. Yes, you can view your pocket pc screen from a pc, using pocketvnc server (1o euros to buy): http://www.pocketvnc.com/projects/pocketvnc/index.php

This is a commercial spin-off from the open source, free to use VNC (Virtual Network Computing). However, the latter only includes a VNC client for WM5 devices, not a server. However, it only claims to work over wireless/bluetooth/wired tcp/ip connections, so I don't know if it would work over the usb umbilical.
