I'm sorely tempted to crack open my Ameo, and see whether the microdrive could be replaced by a more battery efficient 8GB CompactFlash card.

Anyone opened it or found internal shots yet?

8GB Compact Flash cards generally ARE microdrives :D The microdrives inside ipod mini's are compact flash cards and can actually be read using a convetional CF card reader

Anyway, why would you stop at 8GB? There are 16GB (and I've heard of 32GB) compact flash cards around ;)

There are 8GB CF cards that are actually FLASH of course, hence my interest.

I'm aware most microdrives are CF, also hence my devious plan ;)

Well, if somebody were to send me both a 8/16/32GB CF card and an Ameo I'd fully investigate that prospect for the good people here at modaco :D

;)

I'd love to replace the MD with a Flash product. If anyone finds any photo-how-to's post it here and I will happily let you know whether it works.
