Are you using a screen protector?  I didn't find it that bad compared to other screens until I fitted the rubbish included screen protector.
Now, as you say it's unreadable in the sun.

In that case definitley don't install it.  It'll make it much worse.
I didn't think it was too bad actually.  I was using mine in the garden yesterday for surfing and as long as my back was to the sun it was ok.
No worse than any other PDA I've used.

Received my Ameo yesterday - being a good boy I put the screen protector on.  While reading the screen outside was rubbish (compared to the beauty of the screen indoors), I can't say I have ever really had a PPC that was perfectly readable outside.

Will definately have to get an anti-glare protector though.
