How to communicate over USB port?

Does anyone know to communicate over the USB port? I want to write an app on the Mobile5 device that can communicate over the USB port to an app on the PC. I'm hoping this can be done without needing activesync but that might be a possibility as well. I can write this in either C++ or C# .Net.
