Phone works when roaming - but cannot place calls on local network (althoug it receives calls)

Hello,

I just had a friend buy me the Samsung SGH-i600 from Belgium. Great phone - but:

I have a SIM card from Fastlink Jordan.

I received my phone in Thailand and it worked fine (roaming)

Upon return to Jordan, the phone keeps saying No Service. I cannot place calls - but amazingly I can receive calls.

The phone is already pre-configured with the 4 Belgian Operators. There is no obvious way to enter a new operator - assuming this is the problem

I tried w other SIM cards from Fastlink - same problem

I really appreciate your help to solve this.

Best regards,

bman

PS > I tried the Samsung Code *#7465625# and the phone is definitely ulocked.

I'm not sure whether it will solve your problem but you can change the preconfigured operators in the admin settings.

Either dial *#1546792*# or invoke \Windows\AdminSettings.exe (or make a link to it in the start menu and invoke it from there).

Then go to "2 Preconfiguration". It will ask you for a password. Enter:

*#81230*#

Then you can select a country and a operator. But if the phone is from Belgium you probably have only European countries

in the list and "Default". If you select Default you can select "Default" for the operator too.

Then you have to do a hardreset which will wipe out all data and installed software.

But I doubt that this will fix your problem since it doesn't really matter which operators are preconfigured.

Update:

Phone works with SIMs from other providers. Samsung dealer tried to load up software to fix the issue - but no luck.

It seems that some GSM networks stumble the phone.

I know that Samsung just released an update that allows for "better roaming" for the I-607 Blackjack. I wonder if this is addressing the same issue, with the phones not able to latch onto some networks.

I am really hoping that someone on this board can help solve this.
