Just got back from Carvoeiro where I expected to get naff all coverage (it used to be a tiny fishing village), but even in the sea I got a strong 3G signal.  A few times it dropped back to GPRS, but several times I got HSDPA.

I stayed on P TMN (whoever they are) the entire time and coverage everywhere was great - better than I get at home.
