Rosetta Stones Mobile, the first beta tester's release is here. Make sure you follow instructions. No help files are attached, if you have questions post them on my blog or here under this topic. If you don't know what is Rosetta Stone I recommend going to their website. You need to own a copy of Rosetta Stone!

I've tried to do Rosetta Converter and Mapper in wizard mode so it would be as easy as possible.

This is testers release, if you don't think you want to test and fish out the bugs you can wait for first production release (around a year 2057)

Zip file attached, if you have problems downloading it from here you can download it from my page, instructions are also posted on my page (yeah I'm too lz to copy & paste)

Cheers let me know if it works for you.

PS

For now I included only Spanish support. Refer to manual if you want another language support.

I've gotten it running on a Moto Q with only the first Russian lesson installed. Trying to convert more than one lesson at a time only converted half the lessons, and failed to produce a lang.xml file.

My question is: How do I get Cyrillic fonts to show up on my phone?

Edit: also, does your mobile version of Rosetta have voice recognition and speech playback like the full version?

Edit #2: apparently only the files in the picture folders on the cd are getting "converted." Their file size remains the same so I don't know if any conversion is actually going on. NONE of the *.SWA files are being converted or even copied from the CD. Even when I drag the file from the cd to the proper directory on the phone, and when a lang.xml file is generated, there is no voice playback or cyrillic fonts in the lessons.

Whay hey MHHD give Supezero a break. This is the first tester's release and getting a mobile to do just the basics is a fantastic breakthrough, especially considering this is not his normal job. Hopefully the initial part will excite Rosetta Stone so much they pay him unbelievable amounts of money for the work he has done already and to develop the product fully to what you want it to do.

He does make it clear the "conversion" is the MP3 files to WAV files only.

I've just had a look at the files and directory structures for the various languages. It appears the languages like Russian, Chinese, Japanese Arabic etc that have graphical characters in them have special CTX files defining those characters that Supezero doesn't have access to at the moment so those languages might have to wait a short while (2157 if the 2057 estimate is anything to go by)

Thanks for all your findings, good news is my friend from work actually bought me a RosettaStones DVD with most languages on it. And it looks much clearer that not all languages are supported. As of speach recognition..uh well, thats little tought, but of course possible. Let's workout the basics first.

I didn't know there are other files than mp3 I will adjust converter to include it.

I will post new fixes at the end of today.

I've been wanting this for 2 years now. Finally some progress! Good job!

The author's site is down. Did anyone manage to get to save the instructions from his site?

I am able to run the app on my WM2003 PPC, but it can not find the language and sometimes crashes. I'm doing something wrong. I tried converting the .swa (shockwave audio) files to wav's and also mp3's. I tried creating my own language with the advanced part of the converter app. It generated everything except the audio files.

Not sure about the unicode for the lang.xml file. How does one tell what unicode the .txt files are?

Still not sure of all the files that need to be copied over.

I think I really need to get the instructions.

Sorry to revive an old topic - but I'm VERY interested in this as well! Thanks for the hard work.

I am interested as well. I am able to copy the picture files and get those to work for the lessons and have the Exam portion work too. Only thing is no audio which kind of defeats the whole purpose of using the program. Did someone get audio to work and if so how?

Yeah, it's a bummer this never went anywhere. However, if you own a PSP, there's a guy working on something called Rosetta Shard which is moderately useful. I tried it, the demo set worked fine, but my Russian disk never did work right...anyway, he's still working on it so do a google search for Rosetta Shard PSP and you should find it.

This program works like a charm. I am sure if someone took it further it would make it that much better. I got the program to work as much as I needed it to. The pictures/audio is excellent for the Tutorial and Exam.

If you need some help in getting it to work after you tried messing with it for a while, give me a PM and I will help you out. Having Spanish to go on my Moto Q rules. The whole lesson takes up around 300 mb which is nothing for my 4GB card. Must have for all you Rosetta users.

Guest ¿Balder?

Anyone had any luck on a WM6 HTC Advantage (Athena) ?

The application crashes when I assign the Data path.

(Just looked on the date ... is this project dead?)

I can help anyone with this I spent about 10 minutes figuring out the system. It fully supports audio you just have to either rename or re-encode the audio to .mp3 because SuperZero only set conversion from .mp3 to .wav

Hi there!

I would really appreciate some help getting started with Rosetta Stone on my mobile. I have succesfully installed the program, converted the data files, and saved them onto the phone. I then ran the software, changed the path to the appropriate folder for the data files. closed the software ran it again. The lessons all showed up as anticipated, but when I select one of them, I get an error: "an unexpected error has occurred in RosettaMobile.exe. Choose Stop and then start the program again..."

When i click on info, I get "DirectoryNotFoundExecption"

A couple people have mentioned the need to convert the wave files to mp3. I would do this, except wav files play fine on my phone. When I navigate to the data directory, I can select any of the wav files, and they play fine on my phone.

Any suggestions?

Help much appreciated,

Mike

I'm trying to use this soft but I receive the next error:

"specified argument was out of the range of valid values"

I suspect the problem is in the lang.xml file but not sure.

-Language: German.

-Equipment: HTC Fuze.

-Error Details: Rosetta\Mobile.exe ArgumenOutOfRangeException Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. at System.String.Substring(Int32 startIndex, Int32 length at ...

I investigated a little bit and the problem could be a 0 value instead of 1 for an index but not sure.
