I'm hoping to be able to get a 4gb MicroSD card, do they exist and will the Hermes work with them?

Also where is the best place to get MicroSD cards? Ebuyer.co.uk have them fairly cheap but they only go upto 1Gb.

I think the theoretical maximum size the phone is able to accept is 8GB, however, most 2GB+ microSD cards are SDHC cards which WONT work with the Hermes...

I saw a 4GB non-SDHC microSD on play.com not so long ago... IIRC it was around the region of £54.99

TBH tho its not worth it as you can now buy 3 (yes, THREE) 2GB microSD cards from mobymemory.com for £39.99 or a single 2GB is £13.99

I could but it would be a pain to have to swap between Documents + Apps and Music. I'd like to store around 2gb of Music on the Phone + 1gb of Videos + 1gb of Apps and Documents. I think i'll wait awhile before making my mind up. If only the Hermes had 2 microSD slots :P

Edit: The card on Play is SDHC :D

There's a few threads on here about 4 GB non-SDHC cards. Before you go out and buy one though, you might want to read a few of those threads. There are a lot of people that have bought them only to find out that their phone won't read them at all and most of the people that have been lucky enough to have them read in their phone have problems with them. The biggest problem is that they usually only work for about a month before everything on the card decides to get corrupted and then you have to reformat the card and add everything back again. I have one myself and after about 6 or 8 reformats I went back to a 2 GB card and only use the 4 GB card when I want to watch movies and things like that that I put on the card.

On the plus side, apparently it will only take a firmware upgrade to get our phones to be able to read the new SDHC cards. On the minus side though is it doesn't seem like anyones in any hurry to provide these firmware upgrades. I could almost swear that I read that there already is one for the hermes, but I'm not guaranteeing that. You might try checking out HTC's website and seeing if they have one on there.

I have a 2GB mini SD card but for some reason lately windows media player won't find the music stored on the card. If I use file explorer and find the tracks stored on the card & open them they will play one at a time, but the Libary section on the player won't even recongnise a card is there at all.

Has anybody else had this problem with cards, and anyways to get it working properly again?

It's a known issue. Just deleted the folder called MSMETADATA on the storage card and all should be good (might have to restart the phone though).

Thanks for the advice, the one tricky part of using file explorer on the Storage card is that unless you go to the settings and tick show hidden files & folders the MSMEDATA & DRM folders don't show up when you search the card.

As soon as I discovered this the files showed up immediately and I could delete them fine & soft reset the phone. Windows Media Player then found & added the files without any problems and now everything works fine.

Does anybody know if this is a problem that will keep recurring, or is it a one off?

It should be a one-off.

It's one of those files that if not detected at start-up, Windows will create a new version.

The new version should contain all the correct settings for recognising the MP3s on your card, so the problem should not recur unless you delete it again and restart your phone with no card in it.

Should be noted that the Hermes does support SDHC but only on newer ROM's (WM6)

Indeed. It seems that the 17745 builds seem to have the correct drivers. As I understand it, Black Shadow, and Schaps latest Rom have been tested and confirmed working - not sure of others.

Cheapest I have seen the 4gb SDHC cards is around £51. Bit pricey unless you need it for some reason. (and these are pre order - expected 22 June)

I have the latest Black MAJIK ROM which is described as a cross-breed of 17913 and 17743. Will this be able to read SDHC cards?

Ah, just answered my own question:

(From wmblack.info "SDHC support included for 4GB+ SD cards")

Right, I'm going to order one of these:

http://www.mobymemory.com/products/SanDisk...-USB-reader.asp

I'll report back if it works or not.

Well after the past 3 months of hell with my FAKE! 2GB Sandisk card (Can't use more than 1Gb, the supplied adapter doesn't work and PC with a friends adapter only picks up 1GB, Data is corrupting, etc)

I took the plunge and bought a Retail Sealed 4Gb MicroSDHC card for £30 from First2Save on eBay. Comes with USB Card Reader and normal Adapter :)

Will let you guys know how well it works. (And to those asking if the official HTC Build supports SDHC the answer is yes according to people I've spoken to)

Card Received today, works great. Average Write Speed is 5mb/s!! Read Speed is around 8mb/s!

3.76Gb when formatted, the PDA loves this card :)

do you notice significant increase in speed when sync large files (like music) onto your ppc?

will the USB speed (i think it's still USB 1.1 in the hermes?) be the bottleneck in this case?

I just take the memory card out and put it in the supplied USB2 SD Reader for large files,4-6mb/s is much better than 800kb/s
