I am having the same problem on the European/Nordic version.
I have asked samsung about the missing java, and got the following answer:
"Bo, thank you for your mail.
SGH-I600 have no java support when delivered from us.
If you want to be abel to run .jar files you have to install some kind of java runtime enviroment, we have no info of witch once that works on the phone.
Best regards, Samsung Funclub."
I have tried to installed the IBM J9 but it just crashes (When i start a java applet the screen goes black, and then returns to the java launch screen).
So i figure the best option will be to wait for the mobile 6 upgrade that should be availble late this month, according to samsung fun club.
Is there someone out there who has succesfully run java games/applets on the i600 ?
Best regards
Bo

I've got IBM J9 Java installed and running perfectly on my SGH-I600.
I've only run Gmail App and Google Maps Java clients though. But both of those work fine.
Might be worth finding out if there's a newer version if you're having problems. Also, try a battery out reset after install, but before running it.
Which Java apps are you trying to run? It might be the Java app rather than the IBM J9 runtime environment that's causing the problem.
