Guest Superchimp Posted October 23, 2007 Report Share Posted October 23, 2007 Just got my TytanII which is replacing a well-worn Tytan and so far quite pleased with it. I had the 'Black' firmware update and extra comms buttons which allowed me to turn off the 3G aerial on my Tytan thus extended battery life from 8hours to 4 days. Before the firmware update I used Bandswitch which allowed me to do the same thing. Now I've just charged my TytanII and I've watched the battery level deplete before my eyes and I'd really like to know if there is a tweak that will allow me to do the same as on my Tytan. I have already tried Kaiser Tweak which turns off all data but I need GPRS to remain on for push email so that's no good (unless it is updated to do what I want). Any ideas out there? Turning off 3G is fine but I need to have the GPRS on for push email. I'll try the other solution which is manually changing th band to see if that works. However, I recall that the Tytan had one aerial for GSM/GPRS and another for 3G. When you pressed th button it actually turned off the 3G aerial which is where the battery saving came in. Versions up to 1.2.4 were free, and you may still be able to find a link. It sits in the tasktray, and allows not only 3G/GPRS switching, but also selective enable/disable of the various data connection settings and WLAN or Bluetooth. My concern is that it may not be compatible with the Kaiser but I'll try it out and let you all know how I get on. I'm trying to decide whether it is worth spending $14 on when I can change the settings manually. I guess the switch to UMTS for a specified time is useful. I did a soft reset since installing the new Comm manager which maybe kicked it into action. Pity the 10th button is Infra-red as there is no Infra-red function on the TytanII. Surely it's all still using the same battery to maintain a connection regardless of connection speed? Since switching to 2G for most of the time and only using 3G when I've needed to access the net I have noticed my battery life to be a lot better. If the 3G button replaces the data connection button and allows you to toggle between 3G and GPRS, how do you turn off the data connection altogether without using flight mode, which also disables voice and SMS?
