If i get an orange version will this limit the rom upgrades from HTC (improved software etc..) Thanks for any help guys
Guest petec500
Hi, I just received my Touch from Orange on Saturday and i have to say i'm loving it! It's such an intuitive device and i haven't even looked at the manual yet but i've found my way around it so easily. To answer the questions you've raised (from my limited opinion): Text input with the standard installed keyboard is a bit hit and miss unless you use the stylus, but on advice from others on here (see link here: Data Input thread) i downloaded PCM keyboard (which is great once you get used to it) and Phone Pad, which gives you a traditional mobile phone keypad with T9 input - also very useable if you're more used to texting on a normal phone. ROM Upgrades - as far as i can work out (again from scouring this excellent site!!), you cannot register an Orange device with HTC and hence get access to their ROM updates as they become available. However, i believe Orange do trial new ROMs from HTC and if they're satisfied, they will release them to Orange users. Alternatively, there are posts on here to cook the ROM yourself, but this is a risky business and not for the faint hearted. Hope this helps! Guest petec500
Just found this other thread relating to ROMs on Orange - See here! I'd also like to point out that the phone seems to be little customised by Orange - far less so than i was expecting anyway. Things like Messenger are on there (which i had head that Orange remove due to their forthcoming own messenger), so i wouldn't worry too much about being stuck with an Orange ROM. Guest petec500
Apart from the splash screen at start-up and the inclusion of Orange World, i cant see any Orange customisation on the device at all. Having said that, i haven't seen a "default" device, so perhaps there are things missing that i dont know about. Oh - just noticed it has a tiny Orange square logo on the back cover - nothing on the front.
