Will you lose Tom Tom if you Hard Reset

Hi Folks,

I am away from home, where my Tom Tom stuff resides.

My Tytn II is for some reason really unstable at the mo.

Most likely something I have installed of late.

I happy to return to factory settings but need my Tom Tom

to drive back home.

Will hard reseting result in me needing to unlock my maps

again for Tom Tom 6?

So long as you take a backup and restore to the same device you should have no reason to activate the maps again, its only if the maps are put on a diffrent device that you will have problems.

If your TomTom stuff (including the 2577 Folder is still on the Storage Card, you should be OK. After a hard reset, place the staorage card back in the device, and the 2577 folder will activte, installing TomTom for you. As long as nothing else changed, it will go through the startup tutorial and settings in the TomTom program, then the default map should appear without further action

I've just done exactly this with my P3600 this afternoon- did a hard reset, put the card back in, and the TTN installation went through fine. You will need a few minutes to re-establish a salellite fix.

Remember that the hard reset will delete ALL the user data from the device itself, so you'll no longer have access to your contacts, email etc till you resync. Also, any programs that were on the storage card will revert to trial versions as teh reg code entries in main memory will have been wiped.

TomTom doesn't use reg codes as such, but the activattion codes are stored in the Map folders, which is why they work after a hard reset.

If in doubt, don't hard reset, or if you do, be prepared to buy a paper map, though I'm 99% sure TTN will be OK ;)

also if you use the latest sprite backup it will recognise the hard reset and restore it back to the original settings including the registry that holds your applications data so you dont lose the registration status of your applications. I did a hard reset and it put my registry back and all my apps still remained full versions

If you want to do a hard reset because of instability issues (like the topic starter), it doesn't make much sense to restore a backup since the issues will come back with it.

If you do what i do you wont get that. I do a sprite backup after every install. keeping atleast 4 of the latest backup. if I get instability problems I just restore the backup before the instability started. so one backup after all my main apps are installed then while Im testing apps I do backups. so when im finnished Ive got the original backup of my main apps and a further 3 backups of the best installations since. It may sound complicated but thats because I do alot of testing. Im also a beta tester for microsoft and test their latest windows live builds and other software they want me to test

Sounds like I need to get a copy of Sprite Backup.

I'm a Plus member so that shouldn't be such a hardship.
