Hello

As in the title... I am unable to send/receive emails over GPRS however it works fine when connected over the WiFI.

Note: I can access internet over GPRS or WiFI

Any suggestions?

Thanks

What settings are you using for your outgoing email server?

Over GPRS you may need to use something like smtp.orange.net instead of your usual ISP address. If you are connected to somewhere such as Orange over GPRS, your ISP may think you are trying to relay mail through them.

It would work over wireless (i.e at home) as you'd be connected directly to your ISP and so they will let you send mail through them without any problems.

Hope this makes sense, I know what I mean, just sometimes can't explain it. ;)

Hi thanks for the reply.

Incoming is set to imap.mail.yahoo.com

Outgoing is set to smtp.mobile.yahoo.com

...so I think the outgoing setting is correct?

Sorry I should have added more detail which may help. I'm using an unlocked Orange E650, on O2, and trying to use BTYahoo Email. The error message I am getting is "Your Internet connection is not configured properly. Please verify your settings in Connections"

Cheers...iain.

Your outgoing mail address is incorrect for using with an O2 device.

Outgoing (SMTP) should be smtp.o2.co.uk (contract) or payandgo.o2.co.uk (PAYG)

You may be able to use theyahoo smtp address if O2 allow authentication of the yahoo service- if that's the case you need to go into the advanced mail settings for the account and select 'Authentication' and 'Use default settings' (or whatever the current dialogue says!)

You dont need to use an O2 server but you do need to authenticate on the outgoing server, with your correct username and password.

I dont think you are supposed to be using a a yahoo mail server for a BT yahoo account though...

Ok just tried that but no joy. It's as if it's not even trying to send/receive as it fails instantly. Under Network connection I have it set to "The Internet", same as IE, could this be something to do with it?

Not sure where I got them settings from, it was a couple of months ago. Just tried mail.btinternet.com but no good. I think it has something to do with the Internet connection myself but don't know what ;)

1) You need to know your username and password to log on to BT's mail servers

2) You need to know the incoming and outgoing BT mail server names

3) You need to set up your device to use the outgoing mail server from above and set it to authenticate using the same username and password as the incoming mail server.

As long as you have web access and do the above it will work.

Right, done all those, checked on the BT site and it is mail.btinternet.com for POP3 (my previous profile was set to IMAP4)...but still no good.

I then switched off the Data Connections, tried again, it doesnt even try using the GRPS (the little G symbol does not appear)....

So its a problem with your internet connection?

What happens if you open the internet explorer on the device?

Works fine both on GPRS or WifI. I have IE and Email both set to connect to "The Internet".

Sorted it, flashed it with the HTC Rom, used the O2 config file as before...worked first time ;) :(
