is there any way to get rid of pressing the power button to unlocked the device?

because of that extra button press, it requires 3 button presses to unlock the device, i think thats a little excessive.

on all other smartphones, the "end" key locks and also brings up the unlock screen which then requires the "*" key which is a two-step procedure and not a 3-step procedure.

any help would be appreciated

Another tip.

Use a registry editor and go to hkey_local_mach.../software/samsung/keyrun/

Than choose a letter like V and than press values on lower left of the screen.

Now choose AppPath and write down the path of the app you want to replace.

Like for those that don't want to launch att's video when pressin FN+V. When you make the changes you will press the FN+V and lauch whichever app you picked. Some of the letters have a key that will say ARGUMENT. Make sure you clear the words if there are any. You can also click on AppTitle to change the name of your new app.

ANOTHER TIP.

If you like to SPEED up the BJ2 download a app called OMAP Clock.

Your device has to be software unlocked (use/search for: SDA_ApplicationUnlock does a great job) and than run the app. Choose 288mhz, anything higher will freeze the unit. Usually the BJ2 rides on 252mhz, switching it to 288 makes a nice difference! I tested coreplayer (plays movies) and it scrored nicely on 288. Also I was able to watch and listen to a movie with BT headset without to much slowness like whne its on 252/260. Applications run faster as well, very cool app.

Won't overclocking it significantly decrease battery life? Also how are we sure that it won't have other negative effects down the road? Thanks for shortcut tip I'm gonna look into that for sure!

Im sure it will decrease battery life but it wont be to a point that you would even notice it. From my tests the backlight of the scree is what really eats up the battery.I tested the bj2 2 days ago streaming music with light off and I was able to stream for 5 hours before the phone shut down. In a wee more im sure that will also improve but so far battery life is great. You could also us the app just on certain programs if it worries you. I keep it on all the time it the bj runs great.

QUESTION.

Has anyone notice that the battery does NOT charge all the way full? The gree light shows fully charged but when you check the setting (push and hold CV button) it has about more than 1/4 from the top showing not FULLY charged. This happens alot. Anyone?

I have exactly the same issue.

The camera quality for BJ2 is poor at 2.0megapixels. Most pictures would come out as blurry and the delay of taking photoes after clicking the button can take very long.

I found a trick though and that is to use "multiple shots" mode. In this mode, there's no delay in taking the shot after you hit the button. It also gives you upto 6 chances of getting non-blurry photos.

the pictures are still washed out though but you can't have everything on a phone as solid as BJ2.

bigneeker,

I agree its a pain to use 3 buttons to unlock - here's something that makes it easier - its still 3 buttons, but you do not need to use the Power button to begin the unlocking process. You can also start by pressing the 1 or 9 key to wake the device

so instead of Power (which is on top), Unlock and then *, you can now do 1, Unlock and * - still 3 buttons, but they are closer to each other.

Hope that helps

does anyone have any thoughts on how to use mp3s for notifications?

The system sounds don't immediately list all of your mp3s as choices even if everything IS in the sounds folder. I did these with registry edits. Now I can play anything from .mp3-.aiff files as my email notifications, sms notifications etc... My email notification is the final fantasy victory sound lols. Here's the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\

Just go into E-mail or IM and change the Sound String to the path of the file:

\My Documents\My Sounds\BlahBlahBlah.aiff

\My Documents\My Sounds\BlahBlahBlah.mp3

Glad you found this, but the exact instructions didn't work for me.

Once you've navigated to your previously locked letter in HKLM/software/samsung/keyrun (V, M, C, etc..) delete the AppPath, AppTitle, AND Argument strings. Now set the Order value to 0 (I'm pretty sure you can actually leave this value alone, but i just set it to 0)

The letter you just edited has now been unlocked and removed from the Settings>Key Settings>FN Key Settings menu.

Just add back the letter with any program you want and launch away from the home screen!

I have C set to Calculator

G to Google Maps

A to Alarms

E to File Explorer

O to Opera

etc...

Good luck!

Excellent tip!! I noticed this: The Order Value set to 0 is what removes the letter from the settings. You have to set it to zero, so you can remove it, since it cannot be edited.

I found it easier to just navigate to navigate to HKLM/software/samsung/keyrun in the registery and delete the A, B, C, D...folder that was locked and then go to Settings>Key Settings>FN Key Settings on the phone and set the value to the app you want to launch using the specific key.

Hi, I went through this and it worked, too well. Can someone post the path to the Bluetooth on/off toggle? I deleted that one as well, and would like to add it back. Thanks!

I haven't discovered a registery change that decreases the three-step procedure however, I have found that while my phone is locked, I can press the "1" button then go through the regular procedure of pressing the "unlock" then "*" button. It seems as though the "1" replaces having to press the power button.

1 and 9 and of course the power button work as the first step. That's so you make a 911 call while locked I think.

I would really like to figure out a way to get to the text message option quicker. As for right now I have to hit the message button, go to messages, hit menu, new, then down to text message. Is there any way to make those five steps into one?

In a completely unrelated topic, can I rearrange the main menu? I know you can change it from preset to preset but I'd like to be able to change the order.

If I want to create a new text message, I go to contacts, find the contact I want to send the message to, press right or left on the D-pad until it says "txt" to the right of the contact (it will scroll through all available numbers, "h", "w", "m", etc. then "txt"), then I press the center button on the D-pad. If that person is in your list of recently called #s, you can do the same thing from that list instead of the contacts list. Either way, you save two steps.

I got nothin' for your other question. I would like to do the same, but I'll probably just end up changing the theme.

Not difficult to reorder the start menu. Simple registry edit HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Shell>Start Menu .

The easiest way I found to customize the Start Menu is the use this...no registry editing here!

JeyoPersonalizer.1.0.cab

Cheers!
