The H.264 encoding bible is now online at http://www.modaco.com/content/Pocket-PC-Ge...-and-AVC-Bible/!

Many of you may have already heard of H.264 or AVC (for Advanced Video Coding), the latest-and-greatest video standard, widely used in everywhere where the best possible video quality is required with the least possible storage and/or bandwidth usage.

Its effectiveness, on the video encoding front, is pretty much comparable to HE-AAC v2, the latest-and-greatest encoding in audio technology, which allows for quality (!) stereo Web radio streaming at even 24 kbps, and CD-quality recordings at 48 kbps, which is waaaay better than anything acheiavble with competing, widely used technologies like WMA, OGG or MP3. Similarly, AVC is way better than the “old” MPEG-4 Part 2 or “ASP” or, as is more commonly referred to, “DivX" or "Xvid”.

In this latest, related article, I thoroughly evaluate H.264, whether it's worth switching to it if you need to same some storage and how it can be played back on contemporary handsets. Head on over and have a read!
