Newbie needs some help

Hello im relativly new, so forgive me if this topic has already been covered.

I have been using a t-mobile PAYG sim card in my vario 2 for sometime. I decided to use a 3 PAYG sim as they were offering a better data deal. The phone is unlocked so the 3 card works in it. The problem is that when you phone 444 on 3 to activate the top-ups, the internet ones are not avaliable only voice and txt.

So if possible how do i get the phone recgonised or what techno stuff do i have to do ( see i said i was a noob).
