Builtin GPS - Can it be enabled?

Apparently the Samsung SGH-i600 contains the Qualcomm RFR6250 chip. (note1)

The chip combines dual band UMTS and GPS capabilities. (note2)

Does this mean that our phone actually has a builtin GPS receiver?

Is there anyway to enable it, so we can ditch the bluetooth receivers many of run around with?

Or am I missing something here?

There is no GPS in the i607.

Are you saying that the i607 does not contain the Qualcomm RFR6250 chip, even though the Samsung service manual states that it does?

Or are you saying that the Qualcomm RFR6250 chip does not contain a GPS receiver, even though Qualcomm states that it does?

Your post is frankly not very useful without any supporting comments or evidence.

I'd imagine it'll be the same case as similar devices (HTC Wings/Hermes), which while they have the decoding hardware, are not equipped with an antenna...

I'm saying it's not possible. I'll also say that I agree with Monolithix. And finally I'll say that you're a rude person.

You are also reading a press release dated 2003...for a planned 2004 device. I'm not even sure the device was finalized with those planned specifications. I just dont know.

I could research it for you...but I figured I'd answer from what I do know....no, it's not possible. Ask a question. Get an answer. If it was able to be done...it would have been done already...or at least mentioned here on Modaco that it were possible already.
