Activesync with E200 canary screen

Help wanted please. I have an E200 with 1.03 bootloader. I am trying to unlock this phone but ActiveSync will only see the phone in full 'ON' mode. When I have it in the canary screen to run the software it says the phone cannot be found.
What am I doing wrong?

It's been a long time since I played with the E200 but from memory Activesync will not work in bootloader mode.
With unlocking there will be another application used for unlocking/flashing the handset when in bootloader mode.
