Palringo, makers of - er - Palringo, have released their 'March 2008 update'!

First, the deets (straight from the horses mouth as it were):

What is Palringo?

Palringo is a novel Mobile Instant Messaging client available for mobile phones and PCs. With Palringo, you can keep in touch with friends on popular instant messaging services such as ICQ, MSN, Gadu-Gadu, AIM, and Google Talk. That's just the start though! See anything interesting? Just snap a photo and send it to your friends instantly. Don't like typing on quirky mobile phone keypads? With Palringo, you can just talk naturally in the form of short voice clips - think of it like a Walkie-Talkie on steroids.

There's even more too it! With Palringo, you can create and join groups - such as the "modaco" group - and exchange text, voice, or photo messages with large communities, regardless of where you happen to be. It's a great way to stay connected while on the go.

What's new?

In the March 2008 update, some key feature requests have made their way into the application.

The user interface has received a major facelift. It's now possible to switch between multiple chat sessions easily via the pop-up "chats" list. Conversations are presented in the form of "Chat Bubbles" allowing multiple messages from the same sender to be easily identified. Many screens have received extra polish and new functionality. Of course, users are likely to have some great ideas which aren't yet part of the product, so please keep your suggestions coming!

How do I get it?

If you already have Palringo installed, leave it running for a while and you'll get an automatic update. If not, simply head off to www.palringo.com to download the PC or Mobile versions.
I've been using Palringo for a while now (primarily to chat in the 'MoDaCo' group - come join!) and it's a great app. Until now however, the lack of a UI to switch between active chats on mobile has meant that it's functionality as a multi-IM client has been compromised. With this update however, that is now resolved and it is - as I said up top - quite simply a killer application. You NEED this on your device!

Palringo is FREE and available for Professional (Pocket PC), Standard (Smartphone), Symbian and Java phones, as well as for Windows PCs. I'm also using it on OSX via Crossover.

Want to get started? Head on over to the Palringo site!

PS Palringo is also working on some amazing new features, which we're not allowed to talk about just yet. Rest assured however, that they'll be well worth the wait! Stay tuned :D

I'm glad they've finally got chat-switching available, that was a deal breaker before, but I still put OctroTalk above Palringo because of the GMail chat archiving of all conversations and the proper support of Mobile vs Online status.  While the other newer-to-the-genre features are nice, I find those two classic abilities more important.

To be honest, I've been snapping photos and sending voice clips using Windows Live Messenger on my phone for ages now, and I love it, but it's not really new.
