Make outlook store emails (and text?) on SD card instead of internal memory

Hi all,

I'm trying to get the outlook on my vox to store email messages, and maybe text messages, on my micro SD card instead of the internal memory. There really just is not enough internal memory to use imap with outlook on my phone.

Does anyone know how to accomplish this? I know it can be done because I found an older forum post referring to the process.

located here for reference: http://www.modaco.com/content/HTC-Vox-Vox-...rage-Card-S710/

However, I'm not sure exactly what they're doing.

Does anyone mind explaining the whole process for me?

Thanks for any help,

real

My advice is don't even try this.

You can store attachments on the SD card, but trying to store system folders there can lead to disasters. The OS looks for the system folders at startup, but due to the slowness of initialising storage cards (some devices are worse than others) it often doesn't find them in time, and recreates them in main memory. This runs the risk of losing all your stored emails/messages.

ok. How do you store attachments at least on the SD card? People keep saying you can, but they never say how to do it. I've looked through the menus of my vox and have not found the "store attachements on SD card" option either.

Thanks for help,

Yes- sorry :D WM6 Pro (touchscreen) has the option, but WM6 Standard doesn't.

You may need to try a registry hack, but as SK Tools doesn't even include the option it would seem it isn't a recommended action.

alright, not giving up.

Come on guys! I know one of you knows how to save emails or atleast email attachments on your SD card with a wm6 smartphone.

This would be a big help!

These instruction have been floating around for quite a while. I did it shortly after I got my Moto Q9h, and it's worked like a charm ever since.

MOVING E-MAIL AND ATTACHMENTS TO STORAGE CARD:

1. Using a file manager, create the following folders on your Storage Card:

\MAPI

\MAPI\ATTACHMENTS

You can actually name them whatever you want. I use "Inbox" instead of MAPI.

2. Now browse to \Windows\Messaging (SmartPhone) or \Windows\MAPI (PocketPC)

If you want to save all of your existing mail, move everything in this directory to the new ones on your Storage Card.

3. Using a registry editor, navigate to the following:

[ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Inbox\Settings ]

Then create the following STRING VALUES:

Name: AttachPath

String: \Storage Card\MAPI\Attachments (or whatever name you used)

Name: PropertyPath

String: \Storage Card\MAPI (or whatever name you used)

4. Reboot your phone.

THANK YOU!

This works great with my phone. Now I can actually use email on my phone without worrying about space.

So far no problems with boot up and my SD card not being fast enough. (6gb SD from sandisk (class 4))
