Active Sync in Windows Mobile

Hi everyone, i have a question regarding how i can detect if an active sync connection is established, or if possible make a device think that it is, any suggestions?  I am using a windows ce development book but it doesnt seem to be veyr helpful when it comes to windows mobile devices etc

On WM5+ there is a registry entry that is set when the device is hooked up. You can use the state notification broker in managed code, guess there is a native equivalent?
