In any event I would not recommend going through Carphone Warehouse, and will not be using them again!

Another reason not to go with Carphonewarehouse is that they can't get anywhere near the offers that they'll give you over the phone or in an orange store (and they'll admit that if you ask them). My advice is always to ring up orange, but use the 'i am thinking of leaving...' option rather than upgrades. Get them to do you the best deal they can, (which is usually free phone + less than you're currently paying), then go to a vodafone store. Get them to beat it, and ring Orange again. They'll usually give you another months free line rental or so!

Good deal beckett1 - so long as you make sure you don't go above the 'unlimited' data FUP of 500Mb

Did you have a cheerful Geordie too beckett1?

I have been with Orange since the dawn of time (c. '94) and this is the first time I really felt enough was enough - poor phone selection, bad tarriffs, poor service etc. - and I was ready to jump ship for T-mobile. 'Cheerful Geordie' pursuaded me to stay and I now have 2 Diamonds on their way to the office  tomorrow (see my separate post regarding my 'dilema' in this repect).

I hope the 'horror' stories about TF are not as bad as they seem and, if they are, that installing a new ROM doesn't require me to be an uber geek or I am toast    :D

You will have no probs flashing - head over to xda - they are a friendly bunch there. If you want to be sure tho, give me your 'spare' diamond and I'll try it first and talk you through it.

Oh dear   :D

I've just made an 'offer' to Mr. Sutton on my own thread regarding the spare - subject to my 'Domestic Carer' shrinking back in horror at the idea of touch screen rather than the anologue buttons  her horny old fingers are used to scrabbling at

Yikes !...and there's me thinking I was getting a good deal - that's well over and above the call of duty

[Upon reflection, since I had a Geordie bloke perhaps I was better off not getting that little 'extra' service from Orange on this occasion  :D ]

I got an orange one today (just rang for an upgrade from my C600).  The instructions mention all kinds of Orange menus and customisations, but the phone didn't have them - just seemed to have 'normal' TouchFLO.

The problem is, because it's an Orange phone, the HTC website giving the official ROM updates won't let you register. Also, Orange do not have any facility to update.

Great, huh? No choice but to invalidate the warranty if you want to update your phone...  Thanks guys.

Well, I just used the TL3 (wassit?) update and it worked fine.  Not sure of any massive speed improvement and did get some freezing, but I did before too :D  Here's hoping for a more stable version soon, or maybe I'll just get rid of TouchFLO and use basic Windows Mobile 6?... *sigh*

Were not doing so bad since supposedly Orange were not going to be getting any more Diamonds in before August!

Orange are still having difficulty with the Orange software, we load it on and they fail test, rather than sit on them and try fix the software, they are getting loaded with generic

Dont forget free unlimted data finishes tomorrow.

I have Dolphin 35 and was told it was 500 MB.

On the Orange website in the T&Cs under 'Offers and promotions Unlimited Bundles' It says ' The Offers are subject at all times to a fair usage policy of 3000 minutes or texts (as appropriate) each month or 500MB data per month (See Mobile Internet Bundles). Usage above this amount will constitute abuse and Orange may monitor usage and withdraw the Offer from your account if the fair usage policy is abused.'

Nice if it's true - but probably worth phoning back and asking them where you can see that in writing.
Sounds like someone was confused and they will propbably deny it - but I'd like to be proved wrong on this one!

I think they are getting confused with the Mobile Broadband packages, which I think have the 3GB allowance?

Unlimited Data plans finishing?  CS told me they were a permanent feature of the new contracts when I enquired last month :D

Fraid not, finishes tomorrow from the brief weve had.
I would assume they are maybe monitoring the usage of the people they gave it to for the month? See if it has any impact

Upgrades want £70 so I think I'll cancel and go with either Voda or T-Mobile

Poor service from Orange in my view - spend £45+ a month and retentions had no intention to try and keep me as a customer

Beam me up to the Thicko Quandrant!!

£45/ month? ouch.

I don't think Voda do the diamond though so it's either an unlocked one or the C4 with T.
Or a new contract with O and port your number out and back in again...

Good luck.

I think you are OK if you signed up for a contract with it included already though?

I printed out the log of my online chat session with "Nadia W" of Orange, where I enquired:

"On Racoon 35... is "unlimited internet browsing" for the length of the contract?"

She replied "the unlimited internet browsing is available to you for the full length of the contract"

If that turns out to be a fib, they can have the phone back and I'll cancel the contract :D

Cheers,

Steve.

I do have 3 months left, however, the new contract was going to be a 21 month one (3+18) - the irony is that I can pay the £48 to cancel get it from mobiles.co.uk with £80 cash back straight away, free phone, and then reduce the contract to what I am on in a few months but would rather stay loyal and go direct. Will try again later as someone earlier offered it for free but the system was down and so couldn't do it.
