First post.... and Hello everyone.

As title please.....

I am on an O2-UK payg sim..... everytime i send a sms-txt, O2 reply with a balance update. The HTC tytn/windows mob.... plays the Notify.wma noise for this system notification...

i cannot overwrite the windows/notify.wma file cos its a system file, neither can i delete it, same reason?????? the reasoning being to make a silent notify.wma file and overwrite the existing one.

i hunted through the registryhkeycurrentuser/controlpanel.... if fact i looked all over to tweak the registry but cant find it.....

this is driving me round the bend..... it must be able to be done somehow, cos in silent mode, the notify.wma aint played????? i want to keep the balance notification bubble, i just dont want the noise, at all.

any help on this will be much appreciated

tia

What's under the Event - Messaging: New text message?

it is nothing to do with the new txt message..... it is a system notification, it is the payg O2 balance notify.wma i need to disable.... i may be a noooooooooooooooooob on here but i assure you  ia aint green my friend.

there is NO option to turn this off other than sommat i dont know about to hack the registry or override the windows folder for being a system folder..... if i can do that then i can at least replace the .wma file with a silent one..... job sorted. and i hunted the registry, cant find it there either.

otherwise ill just say fooooook it.... and sell the fiddly twat and get a n95 nokia. end of....

thank you for trying to help conficious but the htc tytnii is a right fiddly and slow bitch, and ill never marry another bitch again :D machine or woman.....

OK

For all you 'experts'.... i sorted this

1. make a silent file called Notify.wma (I used Adode Audition).... use activesync to zap it over to the device in a folder other than windows (for instance - My Documents)

2. get a copy of Resco File Explorer, (mine is from newsgroups).... if you think its worth it, then just buy it. Load Resco onto the device

3. use Resco on the device(not activesync) to rename the original Notify.wma to Notify.old so that its there should ya need it and move it to anothe folder.

4. use resco (not activesync) to copy the new-silent Notify.wma from My Documents to the windows directory.... youll be warned that this is a system file etc.... just do it.....

SORTED..... no more noise.

Dont worry the old Notify.old can be renamed and youre back to the old noise if you need it.

You MUST get RESCO FILE EXPLORER or similar quality file explorer.... the standard one with winMobile will NOT let you overwrite this file.

enjoy

1) Resco is free to Plus members.

2) This will last until you reboot as, I am sure you are aware, the windows folder files will be refreshed when you do.

lol @ conficious

All software is free to me :D but hey, if its free to a  certain section of yoo lot, gr8.

and 2. on several occasions, this has been soft rebooted, and still cured. and for hard reset, afaik all 3rd party software and tweaks are cocked up?, then just run sprite backup to reset to the last known working config ?

either way this is cured, believe it or not, i know it works.
