Hey galvheim, that was a good one. Thanks!

I could add that once you've installed it you need to restart the phone for the control panel to show up in Settings.

I've attached it here.

Due to the popularity of my similar threads for other devices, I thought i'd rustle up a list of my favourite free software installed on my X1. All IMHO, YMMV etc. :D

Enjoy!

P

in no particular order...

HTC Diamond keyboards - decent SIPs for your X1 -
HTC Enlarge Start Menu - actually enlarges both the start menu and the normal menus for finger friendliness -
Flash Lite 3.1 for X1 - play YouTube and other Flash content natively in the Opera browser -
AppToDate - install your app updates in one place! - http://www.apptodate.org/get

Batti - great 'top of screen' battery indicator - http://pda.jasnapaka.com/batti/

CamerAware - X1 skin coming shortly - even if you don't buy the speed camera option, it's great for online tracking, seeing your GPS stats and earning points with Navizon! - details - http://www.camerawar...cameraware3.cab

Evernote - nifty note taker with online sync and desktop clients - http://www.evernote.com

vTap - great for mobile wikipedia and mobile youtube ! - http://www.vtap.com

Remove software installation warning -
Newsgator Go! - excellent RSS reader (install the desktop client too for the ultimate sync experience), better than the built in one from that perspective - http://www.newsgator...Go/Default.aspx

PHM Soft Reset - 1 click soft reset utility -
vxUtil - a great collection of utils for internet geeks (DNS, PING, WHOIS etc) - http://www.cam.com/vxutil_pers.html

NoData - disable your GPRS connection while you are on holiday, and save those bills! - http://www.modaco.co...ty-t246171.html

Windows Live Search - local search and mapping, with GPS functionality - http://wls.live.com

FDCSoft Task Manager - Very fully functioned task manager, service explorer - http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm

Pocket SharpMT - Do you blog? This is the best (of a bad lot) for blogging mobile I think... - http://www.randyrant...mt_40_rele.html

Palringo - chat to use in the group 'MoDaCo', PushToTalk, picture sending an IM bridging - http://www.palringo.com

Remote Desktop Mobile - make the most of that WQVGA screen to remote to your windows boxes! -
SKTSync - Sync your time to online time servers - http://www.s-k-tools...nc/m_tsync.html

Thank you for that, Paul. Just a few remarks though. When I have installed anything relating to HTC (themes , especially Touchflo 3D, keyboards), the X1 seems to be crashing a lot. So if you have similar problems in the future it would be much appreciated to read about them here too.

A couple of things. For YouTube you want to download this player: http://norti.hu/xperia/youtube_x1.zip and then the Xperia YouTube panel: http://norti.hu/xper...be_panel_x1.cab The panel goes a bit flakey when you open up the keyboard and switch to landscape, but it plays Youtube videos better than anything else I've seen on the Xperia.

I love my Xperia X1, it is a freaking marvellous phone.

David.

Please, you need to give me more detailed information on how to install the youtube panel and the player you talk about.

Lots of lovely software to download here BUT none of them is what I'm after. ;)
I guess I should've checked for the software before I bought the phone but hey!! :) What I need is a database program. Something like MobileDB has for the Palm. In fact here's the ideal program for me http://www.mobiledb....m...3;&start=25
You see I need to be able to catalogue part numbers & be able to cross reference these numbers against chapters (Or sections)
If anyone here can help out I'd be really grateful as it'd mean my phone is going be used for what I need rather than as a toy for surfing youtube! ;)

For everyone that takes the phone while exercising (running, cycling, hiking, walking)

Copy to anywhere on your device and run them from file explorer on the device itself...

Hi Paul,

First of all, thanks for the list! I've had my Xperia for a year now, and just recently I realized the great amount of apps available!

Now, the purpose of this message is to ask your help, since I downloaded the htc_enlargestartmenu.cab directly on my phone, but when the file opened, all I got was a file called "index.php" in the "My Documents" folder, which cannot be opened with any of the programmes in my PPC. Am I doing something wrong, or could it be that the download link doesn't contain the specified .cab file?

Thanks in advance for your attention and help!
