My list of essentials after owning a Magic for 3 days.

1. Locale - not quite as good as PhoneAlarm on the WinMo platform, but makes a good fist of location-based profiles/settings
2. ShakeAwake - essential to unlock the screen if you need to access the keyboard/dialler mid-call
3. Palringo - ronseal IM client
4. FBook and FBSync - do facebook properly and get your friends' photos into your contacts
5. Astro - fab file explorer for accessing the SD card.
6. K9 - essential replacement for the appalling default pop3/imap email client

As for AndNav2, I'm not convinced so far. Tested it driving a two-hour journey to Colchester yesterday, and the route recalculation kicks in too frequently and takes too long. The location and roads kept mismatching, meaning that it recalc'd the route even when I was on the right road. Not enough stuff is pre-cached (the preload option just does the map backgrounds, so routing and roads are all still server-based), which means it can be slow to get road layout info. And there's no auto-zoom to show me the road in detail as I drive; the screen layout is pretty poor and missing essentials like current speed, etc. It also hangs a lot (Android kills it frequently, particularly after the phone comes out of standby). It's got promise, but it needs a lot of work. We'll see how CoPilot for Android looks when it's released. I'll be giving Nav4All a try in the meantime to see if that'll get me by until AndNav2 works better.

Can anyone get Google's Picasa uploader to work? I tried installing it from the Market but it fails with a package certificate error.

Totally unsubstantiated rumour indicates that it's going to be in 'a few months'. So the back end of the summer, probably.

My wish list so far ( Not got it yet )

• Cameraware with added person to person tracking & messaging and ability to control how offten position is uploaded and finally ad hoc requests by SMS ( yeh ok I dont want a lot lol )
  
• A small app to quickly change from one provider to another. ( Yes I know there is a wizard but I plan to use a dual sim and these virtual networks ( asda / tesco ) are picked up as Vodaphone / O2 so you have to enter settings manually )
  
• I've already got Companionlink for accessing my Lotus Notes diary
  
• A good email client ( dont use Google mail )
  
• A good music player ( for use in the car )

I'll add to that when I get the phone

For the email client, you want K9. However, you might want to consider using gmail for some mail, as it's very nice having free push mail without having to mess around with server setups or 3rd party email providers.

For the music player, I'd recommend Meridian (http://www.cyrket.co...iii.ro.meridian)

Can't see it happening but would really love to see live mesh support.

Also, more bluetooth profiles so I can send and receive files. It's a pain having to connect by USB just for this.
