So i got an joke text thati wanted to forward to a few mates, but couldnt work out how to do it.  i see theres a menu forward option but its in light grey thus not available, why is this? how do i do it?

My guess is that you were viewing the message in threaded / Conversation mode (forget the name).  Quite a handy view, except I also can't see how to forward a message.
You can forward a message when you are viewing the Inbox / All Messages.  Scroll down the list to the message in question, and then use the Menu in the same way to forward.

This feature kind of makes sense, but is still a right pain.

took me ages to realise but in ur in the conservation part u can click on their msg twice and forward from there
